I've said it in a different thread. Most likely, Aang hasn't admitted his feelings until now because he feels unworthy of love for failing his duties as the Avatar twice now. Katara probably feels unworthy for being a peasant in love with the Avatar. It's been obvious Aang has had a crush on Katara since episode 1. Likely, she didn't start thinking about it until "The Fortuneteller." I just don't get the feeling that Katara would have kissed him back if she didn't have feelings like that. If she did just think of his as a friend or brother, we would have seen her look guilty at some point after that for leading him on. I think we can all agree that no matter what kind of love she has for him, she would be guilty for hurting him in any way. And she knows that will hurt him more than anything else she could ever do. As for why they never admitted their feelings before, that's how teenagers in love are. We're talking about two people that have very little romantic experience. The only guy Katara's age was Sokka until they left home. Aang lived in a monastery with a lot of other boys. Though it isn't conclusive proof, Aang has never talked about having had female friends. Both have feared that the other doesn't feel for them like they do, but they also fear they keep losing chances for something more. Aang probably came up with the idea because of his hallucination. Both seemed to have had the same intention in that scene: admit how they feel because tomorrow might be too late. The situation reached a point where there was something far worse than being rejected. And for two inexperienced teens, rejection can be one of the scariest things imagined. |

A commendable rebuttal. I shall counter with the hooded appearance of her eyes when she first begins her speech. It can be viewed as her love for him as she conveys the emotions of her words. A weak argument, I'll admit early. I'll further it with that her eyes remain closed after the kiss finishes, suggesting that she was enjoying the kiss. Another argument for her expression is her regret that this is how they finally admit their feelings instead of any of the opportunities before when things weren't so dire. Regret of all the time wasted that they could have been closer. Or regret that she didn't think of it first or get the chance to say in words what the kiss told. She watches him leave. That's usually a good sign things went well on a date. If the departing person doesn't look back, or if the non-departing person immediately goes inside, these are signs of a bad date. It's a part of human nature to take one last look. Perhaps she wished Aang would look back one more time, but she also understood he may lose his resolve if he did. It's part of why he immediately left after kissing her.
You do bring up good points that cast a shadow on the interpretation, but I remain as resolute that she did kiss back as you remain in your resolve of the opposite.

I'd have to argue that Katara was trying to keep the kiss going. It's hard to tell with the cut, but it almost looks like she shifts positions when he drops back on his feet. Makes it ambiguous. I do notice that her visible arm goes from tense to relaxed as she gets over the initial surprise. Suggestive of mutual interest. |

If we made a thread for every Kataang moment there was we would have a full forum. Zutaraians make a full forum for A Kataang moment that had nothing to do with zuko and that went to our advantage. Someone tell, this would be different if that was Zuko and Katara kissing. For some people it's not a matter of facts. |

It wouldn't be diffrent. You guys would be bashing and saying what we say about this kiss, and we would say the same things you people had said. And no it isn't a matter of facts when you can look for theories. |

actualy... this mythilogical day "when zutara happens"... i would be whining, sad, and not saying : oh, they don't like eachother, it was a fredly kiss, this is a kataang moment, blah blah blah. this is the way you zutarians are, it is your nature. don't wory, its perfectly normal.... for zuko.... im just saying kataangers would't react the way you zutarians are, only because you guys are in denial. |
lord have mercy, how many times do I have to sayit? Aang was going off to do something very dangerous he could have easily been killed. he said so himself "What if I don't come" wouldn't you be sad if someone kissed you then went off maybe to their death?

If not for Katara's look things would be way too easy with little to no complication. Just because Katara had an expression doesn't mean Zutara is going to happen. |

I never said that though, I mean the debating is about her expression. |
