Name: Kadan the Rock
Age: 47
Tribe: Earth
Kingdom
Description: Dark-eyed and gray-streaked dark haired, tall and stocky,
craggy-faced and grizzle-bearded. Kadan wears an open green vest, brown
trousers, and a heavy belt ornamental belt given to him by the deceased Earth
King of Ba Sing Se.
Info: Born in a remote mountain
village, Kadan???s mother died giving birth to him. His father Rukan became a
hermit after his wife???s death and raised his son alone in the isolated wilderness.
At night before sleep Rukan would tell his son the myths and legends of the
Earth Kingdom, of the Nine Demon Gods and their titanic battles, the Yagami
clan of heroes, and the Tsuchi Tree which roots held the world together, and
where a heartless worm-monster dwelled, and believed in them.
Though
Kadan was an Earthbender, Rukan was not and no one could teach him. In his
childhood he didn???t learn Earthbending in the traditional sense. Kadan mostly
shaped his style by his father???s hunting philosophy. ???A hunter knows how to wait, such as the wolf does with his prey the
deer. He will stalk and watch his prey for hours. He will wait until the right
moment to strike, and never before then.??? Like a hunter Kadan learned to
wait and listen.
When
Kadan was fourteen, his father was killed by an eyeless wolf (Shirshui???s
animal???s species). After burying Rukan, Kadan found the home he had been raised
in too painful to be around without his father. He went to the villages and
from there joined the Rangers??? ranks. The Rangers were brotherhood of guards
that roamed the Earth Kingdom
dispensing justice. However, Kadan found their judicial system more venal and
baneful rather than fair and honorable, administering hard and often harsh
sentences for the littlest of offensives. He had difficulty with their moral
code yet never said anything.
Kadan was finally taught
traditional Earthbending under the rigorous training of Ranger Captain Yasuo, a
master Earthbender. At twenty-one, Kadan received the rank of master. He was
given task of leading a squad of greenhorns (new Rangers) through Serpent???s
Pass. While traveling to the Pass through the Si Wong Desert, it was discovered
the Hu Sin army were planning to invade Be Sing Se. The Hu Sin army numbered
over ten thousand men. With no time to send for back up from the capital city, Kadan
sought the help of local Sandbenders, promising that if they helped defeat the
army they would be lavishly rewarded. In the dead of night, Kadan???s squad and
the Sandbenders ambushed the army???s campsite, sending an avalanche of stone and
sand upon the Hu Sin soldiers, burying them alive. For his act of leadership
and bravery, Kadan was given an ornamental belt and made an honorary citizen of
Ba Sing Se, gaining himself place in the city???s upper-class society. From that
day forward Kadan was hailed a legend.
At twenty-four, Kadan was a
brittle, hard man haunted by his past action at Serpent???s Pass. He is given the
task of guiding Avatar Nanook who was journeying from the North Pole to the
South Pole through the Earth Kingdom.
While traveling, Nanook took notice of his companion???s haunts, knowing of his
deed. He tried counseling the young man never pushing him. Kadan for the most
part ignored Nanook until they were in the Cave of Two Lovers (Get your mind
out of the gutter NOW, don???t you DARE jump to conclusions that don???t exist!
This is where the first Earthbenders were laid to rest, as the master of all elements
Nanook felt he should pay homage to them. It???s a dangerous cave, love isn???t the
only thing put to the test here. Sokka had to use all his wits to get himself
out of there) and faced with the life-threatening dangers of the cave. In the
cave the two struggled to find their way out, and fought against the cave???s
many vicious inhabitants. In one dilemma, Avatar Nanook put Kadan???s safety
before his own by pushing the young man out of the way, taking on a gigantic
badger-mole alone. The act reminded Kadan of when his father saved him from
eyeless wolves. After they left the cave the two had a more accepting relationship.
Nanook shared his philosophy of life and the nations with his younger
companion, which Kadan adopted into his own. Once they parted ways, the
Earthbender returned to the Rangers only to leave them for good.
For five years he wandered the
Si Wong Desert with the tribe of Sandbenders who helped him bring down the Hu
Sin army. As they traveled together Kadan learned from Sandbenders??? harsh ways
and studied their strange style of Earthbending. Over time Kadan combined the
Sanbenders??? style with more traditional Earthbending. During his years in the
Si Wong Desert, Kadan fell in love with the desert beauty Yugiha, a young woman
of the Hashami tribe. As he took Yugiha as a lover, he found himself often
challenged by her protective younger brother, Ma-Shu (who would one day become
the fearsome Desert Bandit.) Their rivalry was more one-sided, stemming from
Ma-Shu. Kadan saw hardly any worth in Ma-Shu. After Yugiha died of skin cancer,
Kadan left the desert people and returned to the mountains of his birth.
When Kadan received word of
Avatar Nanook???s death, he also heard the news of the Earth King???s child born during
the right time of succession. The child was the baseborn son of Earth King Yi Ling
by an Omashu princess, named Yoshinori. After Yi Ling???s death Kadan moved
swiftly to secure the child as a ward. As Yoshinori grew he displayed an innate
understanding of Earthbending, meeting Kadan???s expectations. But when Kadan had
the boy be tested by the Earth Eremites, he failed almost every test. However,
Kadan has not given up on the boy yet.
Abilities: A true Earthbending
master who understands how to wait and listen. If the environment is right
Kadan can unleash an impressive display of Earthbending and Sandbending.
Notes: Is a hard man. Disciplined, tactful, yet has
a superstitious side. Kadan is an experienced Earthbender and brutal fighter.

Basically what I said, twice. ??Spoiler: (Real, actual Spoiler) * * * * * By the way, did any1 happen 2 pick up the Nick mag this month? I don't usually read it myself (my sister used 2 get but it got way 2 expensive 2 keep around) but ever since Avatar, well..... Okay so I was at the store gettin some donuts, when I passed the magazine isle. I thought that maybe??they had this??month's issue of the??Nick mag??and that maybe it??had some stuff about Avatar so I decided 2 check it out. Man, let me tell u that they are really gettin ready 4 that movie. They had a bunch of merchandise, some pictures and posters??we've seen from the comic con, and??even this contest.??In the contest??u apparently create your own??Avatar charater with a special skill ("does not have 2 be a bender"??and his/her "skill??can be amazing, funny, silly, or even useless" ).??"3 winning characters will appear in a comic in the Decemver/January 2007 issue (be able 2 draw your character). Winners will recieve a framed copy of the comic and 10 copies of the issue as well as other great Nick prizes." Speaking of comics, there was another Avatar comic in the issue. In the comic, group's sleeping and Aang has a dream were he's riding "flying fish-opotamus"?. Then starting moving around and bending the air and earth (did I mention Toph was with them?). He creates a whirlwind and even starts an avalanche. 2 put it simply, he nearly kills' em all. Then all of a sudden he wakes up and is like "Morning all, you won't believe the awesome dream I had." Then Toph's like, "I bet," and does that thing with her hair. Oh and that dumb dog that's in the comic makes a joke about bending air and breaking wind. Hilarious. Totally original. Anyway, its the September 2006 issue. Get it if u want. Me, well, let's just say that I sincerely doubt that I'll be reading any part of the issue other than this. Oh, 1 more thing ... or is it two? Well, 1, u have 2 mail (get the entry from the Nick mag, u can find in any store that has magazines) it by??September 19, 2006.??2, and I quote,??"Sorry,??but we can't return your entries. All entries become the exclusive property of Nickelodean Magazine." Wow... that sucks. I mean snatch'em while they're still in the crib why don'tcha. Better make a copy...........or 6. |
