Aang and the airbenders are mostly white IMO. I just can't wrap my mind around names, clothing and writing for christ sakes! It's in Chinese!! but mostly white folks? And it's not like Avatar is an anime or a japanese Manga. it's an american created show. So if the creators use asian culture and language and thought it was inportant to have that kind of diversity then the movie should put forth SOME effort. That's all i'm saying. Hollywood stop being lazy. I want a semi-authentic avatar, not some misplaced rip off or don't make it at all
    several people were suggesting that because avatar is somewhat Asian-based, that the characters should all be Asian. I don't think that's how it should be.

    Katara and Sokka are clearly Inuit. i will be disappointed if they aren't. I don't think they could pull of being Asian.

    Zuko and Azula have the fairest skin color IMO. They could be Asian if someone wanted them to...it would probably work either way. I don't really care what race they are..just as long as they somewhat look like the characters.

    Toph seems white to be...i don't think it would look right if she was Asian....

    Aang...well, some people argue that he is completely Asian. I don't really think he is but that my option.

    The thing is...if they have people like..say, Zuko and Azula are Asian..then the rest of the fire nation people need to be Asian also.

    You are completely right about the ages. They need to get kids that are as close to the actual age as possible. I think the age they are looking for Katara is 15..so thats about right. And i think the age for Aang that they are looking for is 12-14...so if they stick to that it will be good in my option.

    soo... i really hope Boo Boo Stewart gets the role of Aang

    he was BORN for that role IMO (Just needs to buz his hair)

    haha i never heard of him until they posted about him on IMDB boards, he's not well known. Just because they want an unknown doesn't mean they can't have ANYTHING on there resume He already auditioned for the part, so we'll wait and see.

    I REALLY can't wait to see who gets cast. then they'll finally be something to talk about!! lol

    I lean towards ethnic accurate casting for the following reasons:


    The show's locations and cultures are primarily based on ones of Asian and Inuit origin.

    Like anime, drawings cannot always serve as an accurate representation of ethnic physical characteristics. Though, towards the end of the series, Zuko's face reminded me a bit of a few guys I met who are either Japanese, Chinese, or a blending of the two.


    And finally, come on, let's let new Asian/First Nation (indiginous people of Canada, like the Inuits) actors have a chance to get some exposure.

    I could CARELESS about what the actors' ethnicities are. As long as they LOOK the part AND are in actual age range, i'm TOTALLY fine by it. (oh, and ABSOLUTELY no disney or nick actors!!!). btw i think they're still looking for someone to play Aang. i'm pretty they're narrowing it down to a handful of people each for the other major roles, but they're not all officially on the cast list.

    is this real? cuz it seems like its not because it says nickelodeon movies at the bottom...even though its a MTV movie....doesnt say a thing about MTV...but there is like...5 links to scripts and documents and auditioning information...idk...seems suspicious...

    It's been confirmed they're still searching for Aang. However, I think the other roles have been cast. Someone posted a picture of an email that she sent to the casting people. Apparently only Aang will be a supremely unknown actor.

    do you think thats good or bad? I like the idea of ONLY Aang being the unknown and the rest are more experienced.
