I know there are a lot of rumors about casting, but I will hold off on gettting upset until something official is released. So far there is just a lot of assumptions and casting is known to change many times before shooting actually starts.
With that said, I have to say that I will disappointed if the cast doesn't match the show. I know we need a strong cast who can really pull the characters off well. I totally agree. There has to be some recognizable names in the cast, but for me one of the major reasons I watch Avatar is because of the racial diversity. Katara and Sokka's tribe is for sure some kind of brown skinned people. I see them as native american type or hindu or something. I will be hugely disappointed if they are anything but and no one could ever, ever justify why someone who isn't brown skin are cast as them. I just don't understand why you can have a wonderful book like Lord of the Rings and the descriptions are clearly white people. I would have died if Aragorn was black or the Hobbits were Asians. I just don't get as to why you can have a book, cartoon, comic etc and the person be brown skinned or asian and when the live action movie is made they are all of the suddenly caucasian and people don't bat an eyelash. Dont get me started on the EarthSea miniseries! just think about how would you feel if Professor X from Xmen was recast as some asian guy. That would be crazy! AAng could easily be caucasian or asian. I see Prince Zuko as Japanese, but I think that each nation has a mix of people. Like the Hillbillies in the swap look caucasian to me and I believe they are water benders. Then in the fire nation I saw brown skinned people too.
I am not trying to start a race fight on here or anything. It just makes me mad that hollywood and/or America is deathly afraid of a movie cast with a mostly asian or minority cast, but it is somehow alright to change things to make a mostly white cast and we are all suppose to be o.k. with it. Dragon ball is another example or Prince or Persia with Jake Gyllenhall. He's Persian for the love of god!!! Jake Gyllenhall has a nice tan and I'm sure he would do a great job. The movie needs a recognizable star, but i was a little disappointed.
I know we have jackie chan and Jet li making movies, but they are getting old. I would love to see some up and coming asian actors and actresses on the big screen. Of course I watch a lot of Japanese movies and anime so i dont fear the Asian! Asian females get screen time and are seen as beautiful. It is about time we recognize the hotness of asian males. There are some really sexy guys out there people!

I think Azula will be the only one cast as Asian. Also, for Aang they're looking for a Caucasian male, so no worries there |

I really couldn't care less if the entire cast was white or the entire cast was Asian or if it was mixed. As long as they can pull of their personalities and they semi look like their characters, I'm just fine with that I strongly believe MOST of the cast will be white. Just because... i don't know That's just how i think it will turn out. |
ya...and also, the characters in avatar dont look asian sometimes...only from certain angles...but other than that, they just look...like avatar people...not white, not asian, just...avatar peoples!!! ahah

LOL yes AVATAR PEOPLE! Aang definitely looks white to me. But he's the only on out of the main characters that doesn't look Asian or Inuit. I'm okay with the ages they are casting for too, they need to be a bit older than the actually characters to make the movie more mature and so they don't age as much over the 6 years. |
ya...so its gonna take 6 years to make all of the movies?

because the movies will take so long that why the case SHOULDNT be old. I love Harry Potter and they did right by casting people who are around or looked the age of the characters in the book. I don't want Aang to be 16 and look sixteen and be 22 by the time of the last movie. Zuko, his sister and others can be in their late teens, but Katara and Sokka, shouldn't be very old. Probably 14 or 15 and AANg 12 or 13, let them grow into the role.
I have a sinking feeling too that Hollywood will totally white wash this movie and that will be upsetting. Katara and Sokka won't be any type of Intuit or indian. Aang and the airbenders are mostly white IMO. I just can't wrap my mind around names, clothing and writing for christ sakes! It's in Chinese!! but mostly white folks? And it's not like Avatar is an anime or a japanese Manga. it's an american created show. So if the creators use asian culture and language and thought it was inportant to have that kind of diversity then the movie should put forth SOME effort. That's all i'm saying. Hollywood stop being lazy. I want a semi-authentic avatar, not some misplaced rip off or don't make it at all
