SpongeBob has gone downhill, but it still is superb. It`s just that Season 1-3 (especially 2 and 3) were god-like.

These are the ratings that the season would range from, at least to me.

    Season 1: 9
    Season 2: 10
    Season 3: 10
    Season 4: 5
    Season 5: 8
    Season 6: 8

I definetely know why people thought it went downhill because Sponge Bob used to be for kids and adults (adult humor was innuendo and hidden messages much like Rocko's Modern Life and Animaniacs) and after the movie, Stephen Hillenburg doesn't do much work on it anymore and the show now does more bathroom jokes and childish humor than innuendo. It's very sad that such a sucsessful cartoon had to become childish nonsense that children witness today.

These are the scores I gave for each season:

    season 1=9

    Season 2 =10

    season 3=10

    season 4=5

    season 5=7

    season 6=7

hopefully season 7 will be much better than the past few seasons.

Um, not to sound rude, but why did you bump this thread?

I find the heavy Squidward abuse and overly gross factors in some episodes were the main cause of this show going downhill, at least to me. I do think it is getting better though. Season seven hasn't had any severely gross episodes yet which is definitely a GOOD thing, and no overly torturous Squidward episodes with the exception of Cephalopod Lodge in my book. But yeah I guess the other main reason was because the show got too childish and too many annoying potty jokes and all that crap, but I only think the show was going downhill in season five due to so many disgusting episodes and/or episodes with pathetic plots, but now sometime in season six the show started to climb back up again with some great episodes in my book. I really loved The Slumber Party, Ditchin', and Porous Pockets!

Here's my scores for all of the seasons:

    Season One: 8.7

    Season Two: 9.8

    Season Three: 9.8

    Season Four: 7.5

    Season Five: 3.5

    Season Six: 7.8

Season Seven: 8.5 *And this is for at how it is going right now. Not the whole season entirely because it hasn't ended yet.*

I for one definitely don't think its going downhill, but here's why I think so many people think so.

Once Stephen Hillenburg and S1-3 writers like CH Greenblatt and Merriwether Williams ,just to name two, left after the movie (although Greenblatt wrote two S4 episodes if I remember correctly), they had to replace multiple people on the staff with new writers, producers, etc.

The new writers have decreased the humor that adults love and have focused on more kiddy humor and gross out gags. Some people get annoyed with that stuff and thus think that the show is going downhill.

I for one disagree with them (although I to hate the gross out gags). I think that while this show will probably never reach the level of awesomeness that is S1-3, that it is still better than all of the shows that are currently airing on Nickelodeon. Also, the new new writers are definitely showing signs of improvement as they are putting more effort into making this show better for everyone.

    My thoughts exactly.
