I don't know what's the connection of fruit cake to Spongebob but I guess the topic is about for the people who think Spongebob is gay Spongebob isn't gay I know that you know this Spongebob fans. Yeah, Spongebob is gay meaning happy but not gay meaning _______. I think that Spongebob should marry Sandy so he'll not be gay in the eyes of some people. But,that's weird. A sponge and a squirrel. But remember, Spongebob Squarepants is a world and cartoon of fantasy.

Wait, they said in the VH1 documentary that he was infact gay right? writers, producers, and so on, right? which would be more official than what steven said some years ago. I need to see that documentary...

I don't know, I sort of think he could be gay and I don't see it as a terribly bad thing, he's just happy and a little feminine, doesn't mean they're gonna show him being intimate with a guy, so does it even matter? No, we love him the way he is, so pffft.

    No, they didn't.
They didn't. They just said that the show does tend to use that theme, and that the thought actually makes SpongeBob more popular. But he still remains asexual. And I mean LITERALLY asexually and he is a sea sponge who reproduces by budding (watch "Pressure" if you don't believe me). He is also asexual in the social sense as he's too emotionally young and inexperienced to have a serious relationship. That's why the only distance he's ever swam to was a (female) Krabby Patty.

It's like what Whoopi Goldberg said: "How do we know that he's gay ? We don't know **** about SpongeBob! All we know is that he lives in a **** pineapple under the sea". (I know I posted that in another thread, but I just think Whoopi makes a really good point. )

Yes, but it is the most official source we have. Unless they ever state otherwise, we have to go by his word. Just because he is no longer in charge, doesn't mean what he said is no longer in place.

Yeah well, even if he is gay there's going to be no relationships on the show, especially gay relationships.

    I agree with you 100%

Though, there are joke one-episode relationships, like Mr Krabs and Mrs Puff.
Not that it counts for this particular argument anyway.

SquidBob is even better than PuffKrabs. I still think SquidBob is totally awesome and is still likely to happen in SpongeBob SquarePants. Anything is possible in a cartoon show, even one for kids.

How is it apart from that? How is it so bad or impossible for a cartoon to have some romance/relationships in it?

Squidward and SpongeBob are still meant to be together, they are a perfect homosexual match. A lot of kids these days know what gay means and have seen and/or heard about some gay relationships and references, some kids don't mind it at all. It's something you're used to hearing about these days. Some guys just end up loving other guys. Even if SpongeBob SquarePants is a kids show and not for adults, a few gay references and jokes should be harmless since adults watch the show too, and you know how much adult humor there was back in seasons 1-3. SpongeBob and Squidward just love to hide their true love and feelings inside of each other, Squidward just does a better job at hiding it. SpongeBob and Squidward forever! There's a first time for everything and that is a gay relationship or at least some gay love and romance in an animated comedy show, even one that is aimed at little kids. Sea sponges don't have to be Asexual in a cartoon show.

I meant gay relationships. I have nothing against it, but it just can't happen on a kids show.

For this kind of cartoon, it is impossible, yes.
Romantic aspects and relationships are not what the demographic of 7ish year old kids would want, more childish comedy instead.
