Once in the town that's "forever shrouded in darkness," Spongebob and his friends (minus Sandy, of course) go to find the town elder, so they ask all around town, except either no one is paying attention to them, or they're all ghosts, because no one will answer them. After getting no response, but knowing they can hear them, Spongebob and his friends decide to do some early trick-or-treating, so, they get some white bedsheets from an abandoned house nearby to create the ol' cliche makeshift ghost costume. After all is said and done, they all split up, Spongebob goes to the North, Patrick to the South, Mr. Krabs to the West and Squidward to the East, after which, they'll all meet back at the Town Hall to tell each other what they came up with. Unfortunately, they didn't know that all the ghosts centered in the Town Hall, and all the living are in houses that surround the Town Hall, but they don't go out because the ghosts keep scaring them. At the houses, everyone Spongebob and his friends try to ask questions to, they all go crazy, spazz out, and start to beat them with clubs/maces/flails/golf clubs/anything that isn't nailed down, so they get no information at all, and a day has already passed since the Reaper said he'd take someone's soul, so they only have 6 days left to get the Shards back, defeat the Axe Powers, help Alven, get the rest of the Shards, and get back to Bikini Bottom. At Town Hall, all the ghosts suddenly notice (they already did, but they don't talk no non-ghosts, they just haunt) Spongebob and his friends, so Squidward figures he has nothing to lose and decides to ask a passing ghost about the town elder. The ghost says that the elder's ghost hasn't roamed in this town for over a century, but he's been known to roam in nearby forests and caves and such, so everyone decides to split up, again, and look around the forests and caves for him, Spongebob and Patrick take the forest, and Squidward and Mr. Krabs take the caves. 6 days left.
Episode 22: Shedding Light on the Situation Part 1
After learning about where the elder may be, Spongebob and his friends have split up into different places around the town, all the while, wondering why the elder doesn't roam around that city anymore. In the forest, Spongebob and Patrick encounter ghosts that appear to be scared of something, as they run right through them while screaming. Weirded out at both the fact that a ghost just ran through them, and the fact that ghosts are basically the essence of scary itself, Spongebob and Patrick decide to take a little side trip and investigate what's going on. As for Squidward and Mr. Krabs, the cave they entered is eerily cold, but as they walk further, it gets weirdly warmer, so the only thing this means is that the Axe Powers are in this cave, so they go even further into the cave. Sandy well, Sandy isn't doing anything besides practicing her singing and powers to control earth. Back at the forest, Spongebob and Patrick get surrounded by a shroud of mist, that gets thicker as they walk further, and their surroundings get more purple-ish, until they walk too far, so they can't see each other anymore (but their both still there), Spongebob freaks out and starts to scream, and Patrick does the same, except they can't hear each other, even though they're right next to each other. Squidward and Mr. Krabs, on the other hand, are getting closer and closer to what they think is the Axe Powers, since the temperature keeps getting ridiculously hotter, until Mr. Krabs almost passes out, so he has to go back (Squidward still has his heat-proof armor on). Squidward continues on, until he suddenly walks into the same room he was in when he met Vince and Klepto. He anxiously looks around to see if the Fire Monster is there, and so far, he isn't, until there's a huge rattle, almost causing most of the ceiling to collapse on top of Squidward, he braces himself for the most awkwardly hilarious fight of his life. In the mist, Spongebob and Patrick continually run deeper into it, hoping that they can find each other, which works fine, and they see each other quickly, except.... Patrick sees Spongebob as the biggest jackass in the world, and Spongebob sees the same, except Patrick's the jerk, when really they both aren't (obviously) and they're really happy to see each other. After the biggest fight of their lives, they both storm off, and vow to never speak to each other again.
Mr. Krabs is back at the front of the cave, and decides to sit there until Squidward comes back out, that is, until he smells the sweet smell of money! He immediately gets up and runs into the cave, following the wafting scent of cash, and comes to a corridor that's in limbo from cold and hot, so it's just nothing. He walks in, thinking it's booby trapped, taking his time, until he gets to the end, and darts off again. He finds the room with the cash, and boy is there a lot of it, over 1,000,000 stacks of $100's, to be exact! He rushes in, open arms, eyes closed, and almost is able to hug it, but, the cash vanishes into thin air, and he falls through a trapdoor! Episode 23: Horror-Scope (ahahaha...) Part 2

. So he decides to give road side assistance a try and they tell him that they will call the nearest road trip crew to give him a hand. It turns out that nearest road trip crew are from Sand Street City and Fred offers to give Squidward a hand driving him to Coralwood. As they are driving Squidward chats with Fred wondering if he enjoys his new life when all of a sudden Mikey stops the van and steals it. Squidward notices that they are running behind schedule and that they won't make it. Fred then leads him to Mikey's house and steals back the van. Mikey chases after them on his motorcycle, but just as he is following them he runs through a railroad crossing sign right into the Krusty Train. The Krusty Train then drives away with Mikey knocked out right on it. Squidward and Fred then arrive in Coralwood and Fred wishes him the best of luck with his new life.
