I think that possibley the show will have the same popularity of "The Simpsons" and last for who knows how long.

Nah, I don't think so. The Simpsons has phenomenal writers and, even after 400 episodes when some fans are complaining about the show having a decline in quality, they're still coming out with (IMO) clevor ideas. I'm sorry to say this, but SpongeBob just doesn't have those kind of writers. The show already declined in quality in season 4. Thought the newer episodes are somewhat proving to be a comeback, I don't think the it's worthy of being an everlasting series like The Simpsons.

When you say "worthy", it makes you sound as if you like The Simpsons better than SpongeBob SquarePants.

I agree with SpongeSebastian, the newer episodes have been better than the season 4 episodes (shudder), but I don't think it can last as long as The Simpsons.

Although I don't watch The Simpsons, I don't think ANY cartoon will outlast it.

I'd be surprised if Spongebob lasted longer than the Simpsons

Why are you guys comparing a kiddy show with a PG-13 rated cartoon??

Both appeal to a wide audience actually, although the target demographic might be what you said

I think SpongeBob SquarePants will last around 18 years, more or less. However The Simpsons is currently in it's 20th year and isn't about to end.

    PG.

Other than some sex jokes now and then, it's pretty much a child show now...

Well, looking at the weekly ratings and constantly seeing SpongeBob SquarePants, sometimes I wonder if The Simpsons really is more popular.

Now-a-days, as for popularity, SpongeBob is beating The Simpsons. But I doubt any cartoon show will outlast The Simpsons, I give SpongeBob 5 more years max. and The Simpsons, well, why haven't they cancel the thing already? We got enough, 20 years of running and 400+ episodes sounds good enough to call it quits, IMO.

Maybe one day they will stop, they're like machines, I tell you. :C

However, SpongeBob seems to be outlasting the constant call of 'this is bad, me no liek', 'lolwut spongebob is teh suxx0rs'. I mean, I like it. It's a good show. I actually think the new episodes are pretty good.

The Simpsons creators don't seem to care about the quality that much anymore. The old episodes were funny and they did a dynamite job with the movie, but I am not interested in the episodes after that. However, as long as it rakes in money, like SpongeBob SquarePants, they will push it more and more.

Same here, but they haven't made a Spongebob roller coaster yet, so I still have my doubts.
