I remember back in '99 when Nickelodeon was promoting this new television show entitled Spongebob. After months of publicity the show aried May 1st at 8:00 P.M I believe. I remember having to stay up late that night to watch it - I was only 7. The next day the show was aired various times - once at 9:00 A.M because that was the repeat I saw of the prior night's episode. Immediately Spongebob had a cult following and it became the gem of Nickelodeon. Prior to this Rugrats, Catdog, Angry Beavers, and Aaah! Real Monsters had been the ratings for the channel. All were very successful including Rugrats, but Spongebob blew them all out of the water. Nickelodeon knew that it had found it's niche and started milking it for everything it was worth. When the show first came out all episodes were put on VHS. For all this kiddies reading DVD's weren't popular then - although invented in '97. I have grown up with tales from Bikini Bottom and even controversies of children drowning at beaches while looking for Spongebob and the gang or even a accusation of his sexuality. However, through all of this the show has remained the strongest rated children's animated show of all time. Even though geared towards children quite often their are jokes that run through the show that are geared toward the younger audience. Nickelodeon and Spongebob come hand and hand and yet Spongebob still has it's own pure individual humor. For nearly a decade the show has enchanted its viewers with nautical nonsense be something you wish.

I remember getting a t-shirt in 2001-ish that had SpongeBob's ripped pants on it.

When Season 1 aired was a really happy time, now everybody tries to be cool and act all grown up and cool.

I mean now everybody tries to act cool even though there're only 11 or 12, but back then they were not like that.

Maybe cause some of the newer episodes are on that level. But i agree with kids acting older than they are. It's annoying. Some try to act like they're in high school even.
