On Askmen.com, Spongebob was named the 4th worst cartoon character of the 90's. I, however, am a fan of Spongebob. Opinions?

well, if you ask anyone here... they're gonna say that they're a fan of Spongebob, so, you really don't need to state that lol. But still, keep in mind, Spongebob was on Nickelodeon, which was only ONE cartoon station, CartoonNetwork had the greatest cartoons in the 90s (Ed Edd n' Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Power Puff Girls, Samurai Jack, ect...) And it actually probably was one of Nick's worst cartoons during then (Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, Doug, Hey Arnold, Rocket Power, AHH! Real Monsters) So compared to them, yea, Spongebob was pretty bad, but now, it's the only good cartoon left

CatDog, Ren And Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead, Angry Beavers, and all the others, they were simply too awesome back in the good 'ol 90s.

Although, this list is horribly wrong, it came from another site, has 80s cartoons too, and most users on AskMen.com disagree with the list, so yeah, don't care for this list.

I do agree...however I personally thought that SpongeBob was better than all those shows except Hey Arnold. For some reason, I use to be obsessed with Hey Arnold while I was younger. While I definitely like SpongeBob better now, Hey Arnold use to be my favorite when I was younger

Just out of curiosity, who were the 3 worst cartoon characters on the list? It won't bring me to the website from some reason

Of the 90s list where Spongebob is the 4th, the top 3 are:
    Lisa Simpson The Simpsons
No one likes a know-it-all, which is why we've always despised Lisa. The glaring weak link in an otherwise brilliant program, Lisa is a boring bookworm whose favorite activities include attending school and reading Non-Threatening Boys magazine. As if she weren't enough of an irritating '90s cartoon character already, this 8-year-old overachiever is also a raging feminist and environmental crusader whose judgmental attitude always prevents others from enjoying themselves. If only she learned to kick back and enjoy a few dozen cans of Duff beer like Homer, we're sure we'd enjoy her more.

Captain Planet Captain Planet and the Planeteers
There's nothing more annoying than a cartoon character with zero sense of humor, which is why we always rushed to turn the channel whenever we saw Captain Planet on our screen. This holier-than-thou eco avenger is an ancient entity who has been protecting the environment and delivering sleep-inducing lectures about the evils of smog for multiple centuries. Maybe it's just his feathery green mullet, but we could never take this guy and his rants about recycling newsprint seriously.

    Pikachu Pokemon
Arguably the most annoying anime character ever created, Pikachu was a miniature yellow creature who was so lame he could have had his ass kicked by Hello Kitty. Still, we've always wondered what a Pikachu might taste like…

The 90s had way worse characters than that, although Captain Planet is ok in the list, maybe get him in 6-3 instead though.

Well, let's take a look at the facts about the person (people?) who wrote up this "worst characters of the 90's" list:

Fact 1: This person hates SpongeBob.

Fact 2: This person hates Pikachu.

Fact 3: This person hates SPONGEBOB.

Fact 2: This person hates PIKACHU.

Conclusion: This person is clearly an idiot.

    There, problem solved.

    I think...
SpongeBob SquarePants = Hey Arnold! > Rugrats = Rocko's Modern Life > Doug
There are others that I will add later.

As much as I disagree with it, you have to note that they are ranking the character and not the show as a whole, and by looking at the other characters, I'd just ignore their list, which is full of failure.

True...maybe they didn't think that one of the characters on Spongebob was good. who knows?

I know, but I was going back to a topic from earlier in this thread. People were comparing this show to some of the older ones.

Indeed, clearly an idiot. Spongebob RULES and so does Pokemon. And i remember in the late 90s the kids at school loved both shows, so this list is hardly democratic.

What ticked me off was what they said about him:

"What can you say about a character whose audience seems to consist exclusively of prepubescent children and 35-year-old gay men? Maybe they see something we don't, because every time we tune in we find SpongeBob's earnest and well-meaning attitude to be more irritating than a lawn dart lodged in our left eye. As if his overbearing optimism weren't bad enough, this glowing sea sponge always tries far too hard, which inevitably creates problems not only for himself, but for everyone around him too."

That list is retarded, anyways. Lisa Simpson is a great character. If you need a Simpsons character to put up there, use Martin.
