I thought SpongeBob breaking his knuckles in "No Weenies Allowed" was way more gruesome. So was the scene in "Plankton's Regular" where SpongeBob has his entire face sliced off by a door. As for me, I can handle WAY more graphic violence than that. I think many of the fans here complain too much about the amount of gross jokes they're using on the show. For example, many find the episode "Fungus Among Us" to be the grossest and one of the worst SB episodes, and all I have to say to that is, "What?" Not at one microscopic instance did a find that episode gross and, in fact, it's one of my favorite episodes of the newer seasons. Have any of you guys ever watched "Ren and Stimpy"? If you did, you wouldn't be complaining about the little grotesque jokes they occasionally and rarely put into "SpongeBob". Not only does R&S do it all the time, but they take it over the top to the point where you're like, I can't believe this show is on Nickelodeon. If anything, I think SpongeBob should do it more, but that's just my opinion.

Ren and Stimpy is my favorite show! how could you say that?

i also love Ren & Stimpy

What about the medieval episode, where that one guy was going to kill himself. Don't you think THAT might be a little too much for kids?

Yeah, there have been several suicidal attempts on SpongeBob, specially from Squidward
"Too bad that didn't kill me"
    or
"I wonder if a fall from this height would be enough to kill me"

We laugh at it, but when you think about it, ehhh, it's really dark.

^^There are plenty of adult jokes from SpongeBob so I don't think it is that bad because a lot of them go over the kids' heads the older people will notice it, such as:

"SpongeBob doesn't have hair. Or does he???"

^Ewww! But that's why I love SpongeBob! You get to watch a cartoon that STILL has adult elements to make you laugh, and little kids don't ask you a million questions about it!

In my opinion, the scene where Squidward almsot eats the garbage in "Just One Bite" is more disgusting. I fell like vomiingevery tiem I see it. And I've seen it like 25 times.

pain felt grossness level embarassment caused
death depends on cause depends on cause depends on cause
pain yes depends on cause depends on cause
    eating garbage no yes yes

So, from this simple table one can see that death depends on the cause as to it's grossness or pain levels, pain is always a bad thing (and the worst bad thing obviously) and eating garbage is both gross and embarassing. Thus death is only a problem is caused in a gross/painful fashion (and it being a cartoon pain isn't a problem as cartoons don't feel pain) so the most gross element would be eating garbade or graphic violence, although grossness and pain are not always atequal levels.

IMO, adult themed jokes are good, when they're subtle enough (just got the hair joke, lol) although, that doesn't seem to happen that much, or that good, in the post movie episodes. but the gross humor, meh, maybe i grew out of it, but i just see a toe being ripped off in a disgusting way, not funny, nor entertaining, just disgusting.

IMO For anything, this formula works.
Subtle Adult Joke=Good-/+ *depends on actual joke*
Non-Sublte Adult Joke=Lame or, on rare ocassions if it's good enough, Good.
