First before I say anything, I need to have some sort of disclaimer:
You guys know me. I am a HUGE fan of SpongeBob, both the pre-movie and post-movie episodes. I hate pretty much no episode. I by no means hate any season either.
Buuut, with Season 7, I'm beginning to have a certain annoyance. Not with the season, but with the way people look at it.
Some people like it better than Season One. Some like it better than Season Two. Some better than Season Three. Why is that? I don't think it's better than any of the three aforementioned seasons, not by one bit. While I do think it is the best post-movie season, it's not better than any of the pre-movie seasons. Why do people like it a lot? I have a theory. They see this last gleam of hope. They see SpongeBob coming back to its original glory, taking back its throne as one of the best shows on television. So, they label Season 7 one of the best seasons. But truthfully, it isn't. Sure, some of the episodes are downright hilarious, but we can't ignore the bad ones. We can't ignore the fact that this season still has some characters acting out of character, and that the show is still jumping that shark. Barely, but it still is. So, I still enjoy Season One WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than Season 7. It has the characters perfectly in character, and the plots were amazing, and original, and all that. Season 7 is great and everything, but there's still plenty of room for improvement.
To name two off the top of my head:
- More Sandy episodes!
- Less Krusty Krab vs. Chum Bucket episodes!
Come on, most of you must agree with that. So, what do you think?
