Let's just say that Avatar's storyline is full of plotholes since apperantly the water tribe are the only people that don't have an animal companion (amongst other plotholes).

Since the other creatures (sky bison, badger mole and dragon) are all made up, the waterbending creature would probably be something like a sealmonkey or a giant octopenguin.

OCTOPENGUIN!! GENUIS!!! I LOVE THAT IDEA! (continues to freak out while everyone around me stares and rolls their eyes)

IT'S AN OCTOPUS AND A PENGUIN! IT'S THE BEST IDEA SINCE THE BEGINING OF AVATAR!! WOOT!!! (People are now getting seriously disturbed and back away slowly)

THEY'RE TWO OF MY MOST FAVORITE ANIMALS AND IT WATERBENDS, WHICH IS A HUGE PLUS AND IT GOES WHOOOSH!!! (swat team comes in with Pepper spray)...

I believe that the sea serpent from the "serpents pass" had some ability or it just shot water from its mouth. Other than that there, in my memory, has been no water bending animal.

It was actually the unagi from The Warriors of Kyoshi that shot water. The sea serpent just kinda swam and roared.

They saw how the moon pushed and pulled the water and learned to do it themselves. Simple as that. Although it makes no sense, but neither does badermoles.

Badgermoles make more sense then Bison, since they dig. :/

It's funny how most people missed the point of the question.

He's asking if there is a waterbending animal NOT how the waterbenders learned to waterbend.

Yep he only is askin somethin about balance, which animal is the companion of the Waterbender Avatars? I too hope some short of canon answer for this, it just seems unbalanced if there's no waterbender animal not that they learned from the moon (Which is already weird since they are the only ones not to learn from animals) or not. Just if there's some short of fish or sea mamal waterbendin

I can earthbend and firebend at the same time, and I can also bend air sometimes.
