I don't want to rain on anyone???s parade here but the man did a lot more then voice acting for a character on one cartoon show, I don't think its nice to do a tribute for him out of cuts from this single show.

If you read back a little further you may find other people referencing his other works or a least the fact that he??accomplished other works. Even so, when someone is lost, people have different ways of remembering them. Some may remember Mako as a brother, a loving father, an uncle, a mentor, a caring husband, a leader, an idol,??a superb actor, a founder,??a teacher, a friend, or even the voice a revered, well-liked??cartoon character. The point is that he remains in our minds in some way, as well as in our hearts.

???.Un-freakin-believable. Here I am, out all day commemorating the anniversary of my father???s death and I come home to this? Oh my God, U4ric, I know just what you mean. I remember when the show was just starting out, I was looking at one of Mako???s recent pictures and was like, ???Holy crap, they actually picked this guy? He looks like he???s ready to keel over any second! You think they would???ve caught on to this kind of stuff by now.??? Now at the time it seemedd like it was just a little bad-taste joke, and I???m not the most superstitious person, despite the environment I grew up in??? but I still regret every single word. I even hoped that they pre-recorded some things in case the worst would happen. I too see how selfish, if not outright callous, I was being.

I don???t know what it is, but ever since my father???s passing, it???s been death after death. I???ve lost 15 members of my family both in the U.S. and in my home country in just one year. Most of their deaths were only weeks apart from each other. Still not crazy enough? Just 3 months after seeing my grandfather (my only grandparent left) for the first time while visiting my home country for my father???s burial, (and as the eldest son, or Opare, I had to do some pretty F-ed up stuff in order to put his body to rest, but I???d do em 10 times over again for my dad) he passed away, on Thanksgiving (same day as Pat Morita). To makes matters worse, the same thing that got my father is happening now to me. We really don???t know what???s going on. My entire family comes from a very superstitious, religious culture. The adult and elders are thoroughly convinced that a curse has been placed on us, while the younger, more modern generation is a bit more skeptical and believes it to be??? pure coincidence. ...I???m beginning to believe. This is really starting to scare me, and forgive if it sounds arrogant, but that???s not a simple task. I???m really scared. It???s like it can happen at any moment and there???s really not all that much you can do about it.

I apologize. I really didn???t need to say all this crap; this is supposed to be about Mako Iwamatsu.?? I guess I just felt compelled to. I don???t know. Feels like I don???t know anything anymore. You always think you???ve got all the answers right up until you realize you???re just another speck. ???It???s been a long day, no a long year. To all those who knew Mako or admired his work, I wish you the best during these troubled times. It can be hard losing someone you looked up to and loved all or for what seems like all your life. I now know how it can truly feel. Also, remember to take care of your own families or those you love. It may seem like they???re always gonna be around, but everyone has their time, some sooner than others. The best we can do is do the best we can. ???So says the new ???man of the house.??? ???Never get tired of hearing that one.

    *hugs*

Well I don't know what to say but well (Shrugs) okay (Gives out one hug)

Yeah, I know, I know. And excuse me if it sounds like I'm givin' excuses, but its like I said; long day.

I'm so sorry for all you're going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you, too.?? *more hugs*

*snif* that made me cry..that's not saying much, but still...

I hope you get to feeling better eventually, even though so much has happened. Try not to think about the superstition side of it. Everyone has a certain amount of time that they're supposed to live, and even though all of this might have changed your life, I hope it won't scare you enough to control you the rest of your life.

It's not over..keep your friends close and soon this will all be another chapter in your life.

cute, how so many can feel connected to a man they never met, cry over a fictional person who???s actor has died... what I'm saying is that morning of a man should be left to those that really knew him, not to those that think they did but didn???t. The memory of him becomes corrupted; the memory of his personally becomes a corruption of the memory of the personalities he played and how people see him afterwards becomes a farce of who he really was. James Doohan was not just Scotty, Christopher Reeve
was not just superman and Deep Roy is not just a @#$%ing umpa lumpa!

Wow That sucks. He was such a wonderful actor and the moment I first watched avatar it was Iroh that made me want to continue watching. Mako was a good good actor and his cancer That was horrible I can only image. At least in the spirit world there is no cancer.

dumbTVnut...you may not want to rain on anyone's parade, but you are. If you're just here to tell us to stop having some sympathy for a man with such talent, or for his family after his death, then why are you here? Let people mourn as they will, regerdless of whether or not we knew him on a personal level. The loss of a life is the loss of a life! He will be dearly missed.

This is an Avatar forum so it makes perfect sense to do tributes based on that work especially since it is from this show that we have a majority of the clips, footage and voice information to draw upon. So to criticze on an Avatar forum that clips from Avatar are being used makes no sense to me.

Of course Mako had an extensive background and it has been referenced in various places on this forum. Showcasing his work on Avatar on an Avatar board filled with Avatar fans may not be nice to you, but it certainly is relevant. Of course your opinion is a valid as anyone else's, but my opinion about your opinion is it wasn't very nice to disrespect someones work just because that person may not have done it the way you wanted. Why not do your own instead?

I don't care what DumbTVnut said I'll mourn over his death if I want he was a great actor and brought beautifull nature to the avatar world without his Iroh probably will neverbe the same but I have faith that the new actor will be almost as good.

??I am sad for the people who lost Mako-san, but tons of people die all the time. If you cry for all of them then you would be always depressed. The only reason people even noticed this guy is because he was in movies and voiced cartoons. If he wasn't an actor nobody on this bored would give a sh*t. so I agree with a previous poster that we should leave the mourning??to his relatives and friends who really knew him.

    U4ric,

I don't think this is a matter of me disrespecting you, rather are you respecting Mako. I won???t make a tribute to the man, I never knew him nor do I know if he would approve.

What we should talk about here is what going to happen to Iroh?

Uh, last I checked .. you're not the "boss of me" or anyone else except yourself ??and I refuse to accept any right you claim to tell me what I should or shouldn't do, say, think or feel or even how I can interpret things.

Mourning can take more than one form. As I stated way back in this thread that although I will miss his talents, my thoughts were with his family who lost so much more. I truly doubt anyone here (unless they did personally know him) feels they mourn him more than his family friends and colleagues, but that doesn't mean he (and other public figures) aren't mourned at other levels.

If that's the way you feel, then fine that's your gig, but that doesn't mean it has to be our gig.

Seriously I would like to hear what going to happen to Iroh.

    U4ric,

I'm not bossing you, you can do as you want; morality is relative. I don???t want to anger you further but you should be more open to criticism of your work, either that are maybe you should reconsider displaying it.

My work? My one picture in the picture thread where I said my thoughts were with his family?

    I thought you were??talking about??mellomuse's tribute.

(shrug) You can criticize all you want, but that also means??others can criticize your critique.

Maybe you should consider using the word should less often and people won't interpret your critiques as being bossy.

As far as what will happen to Iroh, from what I understand season two's voice work was completed. I imagine the writers will not adjust the story - so if Iroh was supposed to die he will and if he's not supposed to I imagine the role will be recast.
