I still don't understand why people say he died....because the definition of death is:the total and permanent cessation of all the vital functions of an organism
and his condition was not permanent....
So what do you call what happened to him?

You've got to realize that he technically was dead. His heart had stopped, the life had been sucked out of him. He would've been a goner if Katara hadn't had the spiritual water with her. It would've been permanent if Katara wasn't there.

He was dead, from the time Azula shot him with lightning up to the point when they were on Appa, and Katara applied the Oasis water.

No, he did. When Azula's lightening hits him, Aang dies.

No one, not even the creators, specified that Aang had died. Prove that he had, otherwise give it up.

He was in a severely unconscious state..
But all his organs had completely shut down, and the only reason it wasn't permanent was because of the magic water. And besides even Aang himself confirmed that he was dead.

How on earth can you prove that all his organs shut down? When on earth had Aang confirmed that he had died? Where are you getting this stuff?

    Direct quote from The Awakening

Aang: I went down. I didn't just get hurt, did I? It was worse than that. I was gone! But you brought me back.
Katara: I just used the Spirit Water from the North Pole; I don't know what I did exactly.

Because he was hit by lightning and got a gaping wound in his back. No-one could have possibly survived that. Even the Avatar is only human.

I still don't think he was dead. Even in last night's episode, he mentioned that his chakra was still blocked, therefore he still couldn't enter the avatar state. That doesn't sound like the avatar cycle had been destroyed.
