I do think they did that on purpose. It was funny as heck, but it also gave an ominous warning to the gAang about the coming days (episodes). I think it worked in just perfectly. |

Katara is right about a war being the wrong time to get into a relationship. I still say she is much more mature than Aang. |

SPOILER: Pretty much, the players on stage made it seem like Katara was into Zuko. Please note that there was NO blushing on either Katara or Zuko's part. They looked at each other like o.0 and MOVED AWAY FROM ONE ANOTHER. and when play Zuko asked if Katara was the Avatar's girl, she said they were just friends. Upset, Aang leaves. Later, when Katara goes to see about him, he asked if the play was right and ask why they aren't together after the kiss they had. Katara didn't say she saw him as a little brother: THE PLAY DID. However, she does admit that she doesn't know how she feels. He kisses her and she DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY BACK AWAY, however she does get upset because she'd just told Aang she needed to think about it. She leaves, Aang feels bad. Then, apparently when Aang is suppose to be facing the firelord (in the play) they once again make reference to them being friends. Aang looks visiably upset but SO DOES KATARA. This episode really left everything up in the air and you can interpret everything for each ship either way. For instance, supposedly what you see on Ember Island and what was on stage was suppose to be correct intrepretations. I can see a Zutara fan trying to jump all over this however, that must mean their ship is doomed to never sail because ZUKO DIES. And to honestly say the intepretations of the characters were correct would be stupid, to say the least. Maybe a tad bit on spot, but way off all the same. Also, no matter how much a Zutara fan would have wanted it, that's NOT the way things happened in the cave, period. (Or Katara is a serious, erm...yeah...) You could take the way Katara and Zuko moved from one another like a hint that they either don't like each other and don't want anyone to get the wrong idea...or that they do and they're just trying to hide it. Of course, considering Katara has visiably blushed when it came to Jet and Aang, two people we arguably know she likes/liked, I find it odd that neither blushed but simply looked liked WTF?! and moved away from one another. Katara never said whether she liked Aang or not and she certainly didn't say she liked him only as a brother. She outright said she didn't know how she felt and that it was the wrong time to get together, what with a war going on. I think she's personally considering it, but there are just more important things to worry about and she needs to be clear on her feelings. I doubt seriously Kataang is dead by a LONG shot. And considering the way Zuko lit up when he talked about Mai in TBR and that entire episode as a whole, I seriously doubt Zutara is any closer to happening. If anything, it reinforced that he did still care for Mai, enough not to put her jeapordy but more importantly, that she still clearly cared for him. |

anybody think...and follow me on this one: that the guy playing zuko having the scar on the wrong side of his face and the kid coming up to Zuko during intermission and telling him his 'costume' had the scar on the wrong side was the writers poking fun at themselves and the animators for drawing Zuko's scar on the wrong side of his Zuko's face in, "The Firebending Master" ? ~_^ |

That. was. incredible. I know I said TSR was my favorite, but now this definitely is. Like, no contest.
Honestly, how can one show balance humor, angst, and romance (all as major parts) so well in one episode?! It amazed me!
Anyway. You're probably wondering how I, an obvious Kataanger, is declaring this as her favorite episode.
Well, number one: Aang finally revealed his feelings. We got to see a different side of him than usual -- the confused, hurt, regretful side of Aang. And all because of Katara. He was completely beating himself up over not unlocking the seventh Chakra, so it's obvious he KNOWS he needs to focus on saving the world before Katara -- it's just really hard for him, and we finally got to see him express those emotions. I absolutely loved that.
Number two: Katara expressing her feelings. She would have rejected him if what he said was true, but she didn't. She struggled for words and tried to explain to him that this was hard for her, too, and she was confused about her feelings. She didn't know how she felt. Like she said, there's a war going on. As much as Aang needs her, she knows there are more important things to focus on. And she knows that she can't spend her time figuring out her feelings. As much as she obviously wants to, she knows it's best to (in the words of the guru) let go for now and figure out how they're going to beat the Firelord. This is frustrating for both of them, which is why I think she snapped at him when he kissed her.
Basically, I loved that so called anti-Kataang scene. It was uber-emotional, and it was the best that it could have been, I think.
The other parts of the episode? Pure genius. You'd have to be a real Avatar fan to understand a lot of the humor, and it's definitely worth it. I laughed out loud several times. And it was so great to see everyone's reactions. There were some emotional Zuko moments, and those really fit in well with the humor.
Overall, awesome episode. I'll give it a 9.5 / 10.

I love the parts like that in the play. That's Bryke's way of agreeing with us fans and laughing at themselves.

ok some of you guys are totally overreacting on how katara acted with aang...and whether we like it or not, it IS understandable
Im guessing she feels that if she does get romantically involved with aang, and if he ends up dying in the war, she's gonna be completely devastated, even more so since he'll officially be more than just a friend...and after her mother's death, another death of a loved one will screw her over...that's why i think she's just staying behind the boundary line...this can be one of many reasons but its not the ultimate
Anyways i loved when aang gave a little nod when fake zuko said "but i thought you were the avatar's girl!"...it was so cute
and LOL the lil boy running around in the aang costume...cuute
I LOVED this episode...it really did open up alot of things for all of them
i was crying with laughter when fake toph was like SONIC BOOOM!!!!! and then says "i can see you all now"...LMAO
i was a bit sad that there were many play scenes that we missed..like how sokka mentioned the painted lady etc etc
but overrall i loved it!
