Apparently, the people epitomize their element (presumably whether they bend or not). The Fire Nation benders and warriors aren't stronger or better (or other) per se; they just hit harder and faster up front as opposed to waiting and listening first. Bumi mentioned the "typical" airbender tactic of 'avoid and evade'. And Iroh mentioned how waterbenders use their opponents' energy against them, which indicates that they need to size up their opponents first.

You would think that after Toph's dad saw what a powerful earthbender she is he would lighten up abit.
Perhaps he would have "lightened up" in time if she hadn't disappeared before her time in his judgment. She is still his charge. It was probably a bad move to send Xin Fu to join in the search, but the father probably wanted Xin Fu's Yin to challenge Master Yu's Yang (uh, did I mix those up ?)

Yeah, well, someone agrees with Bush, doesn't mean he's right.

And Sokka is far from idiotic.

Hey Bumi ain't no idiot he's king for a reason, i mean hes a powerful earthbender (according to azula and the fact he can bend himself up the slide with his chin) he's just a little eccentric, and most people are.

Also anybody notice how the fire nation's tech is in like 1930 or so i mean im suprised they aren't flying firebending powered planes by now...

The FN tech is around the 1920's well to the extent of some things. Their ships are still in the 1860's but they have tanks from the 1920's, but they got a TBM (The drill) and that is a somewhat new thing, well if you count out the one made in the late 1890's.

With fire comes the ability heat an engine. With the ability to heat an engine comes the ability to move a tank. With the ability to move a tank comes the ability to squash people and fire your little heart out.

Face it. Fire is the best element for advancement.
