So, the earth kingdom is full of idiots . . . remember in Book I the way the earth kingdom soldiers tried to deal with Iroh in such a stupid way after they had captured him?

Well sheesh, they're even worse in Book II:
    • General Fong: A true madman . . . as acknowledged by even his troops.
    • Mayor Tong: This character was so absurd he was pretty much unbelievable. He belongs in a Monty Python skit, not Avatar . . .
    • Toph's dad: "Yes, yes, I just saw my daughter singlehandedly take out an entire squadron of elite earth benders . . . how can I capture her while she's guarded by the Avatar? I know, I know! I'll send TWO earth benders after her . . . one of whom's a brash idiot . . . yeah, that'll show her!"
    • General Sung: Probably the worst general we've ever seen.
Although, I have to admit that the Firenation War minister wasn't so bright himself. He tried to dismiss potentially serious problems merely to save face with the Firelord's daughter.

i think they're just idiots (or psychos) to make the show more interesting and funny. i doubt it has anything to do with being in the earth kingdom. for example, Toph is really smart as far as i can tell, and Sokka's not too bright at times (which makes the show halarious)

As said by pooldude256 in the please read before posting thread:

"No Character Sucks threads.?? Such as "Sokka Sucks!!!".?? Not even Azula "

Therefore, this thread deserves to be locked, as the creator ignored a simple rule.

Seems someone sees in black and white instead of shades of gray. No nation is purely good, your going to find dark characters in each nation. Look at the Air Monks who ran the Southern Air Temple. They decided reveal to Aang his destiny before he was ready and overlooked his human needs. While their intentions were good (C'mon, they knew trouble was rising from the Fire Nation and only the Avatar could keep balance) it was a mistake to push the boy. Look where it got them. And the Water Tribe has their faults too. We just didn't get to explore the depth of their culture to see it. Hahn wasn't a very admirable youth. He a self-centered lad seeking tribal power and glory.

General Fong: Call him mad? The guy's extreme but I don't think he'd go so far as to actually let Katara fall into fatal danger. Yes he came close but he was only doing what he thought was needed to win the war quickly. The people of the Earth Kingdom are dying. Like the Air Nomads his intentions were good but his methods questionable. His men consider Fong one of their own, that has to speak something admirable about his character. And not all leaders are good men. I???ve read characters who were despicable men, but brought their realm such prosperity and power I???m willing to overlook their true character. Sometimes you have to see the forest instead of the tree.

Loa, Toph???s dad: He WAS keeping his daughter in a cage, but he was doing that to protect. Yes it was paranoia but also see he loves his daughter unconditionally. He was just a father trying to protect his baby. Heck, I???d be a bit worried if he was totally al right with Toph facing those brutal men. She???s a capable Earthbender, but don???t to blind to the fact she is a little girl! He had every right to be worried and angry finding out his daughter went into those dangerous conditions. He???s just a normal parent and his reaction was perfectly healthy! Any good parent would have done what he did.

General Sung: The old man is incompetent and shouldn???t in charge. Yet one of the higher ups who is even more incapable than Sung put him there.??Probably just some high nobleman who would look good at the top of the wall.

Tong: He brought me giggles. And I???m not sure his anger was totally misplaced. How would you feel if someone murdered your beloved patriarch and source of inspiration.

heh...these ppl aren't so bad...especially Toph's dad...he only wanted to keep Toph safe...and Fong(though a bit manical) just wanted the war to end so his ppl would stop dying and suffering...and yeah the General at Ba Sing Se's outer wall was inept...but we haven't seen what the Earth Kingdom is really about...they've surived the war this long for a reason and we'll meet that reason very soon(speculation on my part)

I think that the earth kingdom generals and other figures of importance are actually a clever metaphor designed to point out the incompitence in our own figures of authority and how it is the people behind the scenes that get things done not the public figures but the ones that risk their lives to save the day

Yes, The EK has their idots but I have my respect for Fong though he went to extreame messuresd to keep true to his ideals which was bad, Tao he loved his daughter but he isn't to blame love isn't crome.

As for Sung well he was promoted to general cause he was a good motivational speaker but he really sucks as a general but theres better generals such as the leaders.

It's been a hundred year war. many things make the Earth Kingdom less than what they seem.

-Faster and less worked training so they can get more soldiers on the field.
-Propaganda so people will think they're awesome when in truth they suck
-The good generals all died, more-n-likely. Remember, Ba Sing Sai is the only Earth Kingdom Stronghold left.
    -The Fire Nation is better
-I couldn't think of anymore, but I thought another bullet would make it seem bigger. See? Propaganda.

Eh, maybe more misdirected than anything else...
I mean, what general wouldn't want to use an immensely powerful spirit to crush their enemies?

Seems someone missed the point of my post . . . it was made in jest.

But I'll take the blame for that, for not making it clear that I was being facetious. So my apologies to anyone who thought I was being serious . . .
