It should be noted that in the early stages of the CoD fight, Azula was able to easily deflect a number of waterbending attacks that were far more powerful than the one that snared her when she faced off with Katara. Basically, the Katara/Azula fight outcome was a result of Katara using her brains for once. Azula made the mistake of trying to engage Katara in close quarter comabt . Katara knew that Azula's attacks were unstoppable if she was allowed to build them up enough, and so she struck early, snuffling out the attacks while they were still just tiny flames barely out of Azula's fingertips. The reason she was able to do this was because of the extra speed and power she was recieving from the moon. Azula learnt her lesson; when the two next engaged a few minutes later, Azula took care to stay out of range and pommel Katara with powerful long distance attacks. It's funny really - whenever Katara and Azula fight eachother, Azula stops using her brain, while Katara turns ers on. They seem to have a powerful effecton eachother.
So yeah, the winner of this battle will probably be determined by whether it is night or day.
