A regular earthbender Cannot bend metal, Toph could because she was able to "see" inside the metal and difine the earth particles and then bend them.. But a regular earth bender cannot bend wath (s)he cannot see.

Toph technically isn't bending the metal itself; she's bending its impurities.

which makes the metal bend(literally) so she's a Metalbender...what do ya know...

"This is a type of bending that only Toph is able to do. She is able to do it because in metal there is always a trace amount of Earth. Usually the amount of earth still in metal is so small that it's undetectable even by the best Earthbenders. But Toph is better than the best Earthbenders -- maybe it's because she is blind and has always used the Earth to see -- or maybe it's just because she is that awesome."

    That's stated in Nick.com.
So basically, she is only bending the trace of earth in the metal.

i'm definitely not listening to nick.com again since they said all earthbenders couldn't bend metal. but when Toph did that was totally awesome! i loved how they showed the vibrations of her hitting the metal! now I say Toph beats Bumi by a longshot if they ever fought

How??because she can bend metal means she can beat bumi?

So instead of saying metalbender we should say traceamountsofearthinrefinedmetalbender? it's metalbending no matter how you slice it...not an entirely new element or anything...just like lightning is to Firebending as is metal to Earthbending...that's how it goes

It was neat, but Toph seems too much like a deus ex machina.

For other large print like the one above, look for annoying internet pop up ads.

EVERYONE showed something new in this episode...Aang, Zuko, Katara, Toph, and??Azula just reproved how powerful they really are...I wonder who'd win a tournament with all those in it...they all seem almost evenly matched...
