It would . I don't think it will happen but I think it would be a good twist. Ozai will want to punish Zuko and the best way to do that is hurt Mai....

I personally think theres a lot of evidence for zutara. Its pretty obvious nothing will happen between zuko and katara, although I would love the twist, its not going to. Aang and Katara are probably going to end up with eachother. Im on zutara ship, but I've pretty much given up hope on that one. Who knows? Maybe when book 3 chapter 16 comes out something will happen. Im dying to see it. Anyways, Kataang most likely.

I would not be very suprised either, and I think that if Avatar was a different show then it would make sense. BUT (and here's the big BUT) Mike and Bryan have only killed off three characters that we have met (Mrs. Hakoda doesn't count), and there have been many opportunities to kill off others. I mean, if it doesn't really relate to the plot at all then we will probably just have Mai and Ty Lee randomly pop up at the end of the series or something. Kinda like how Suki was forgotten for the whole first half of season 3...

ZUTARA"S HOPES HAVE BEEN RESTORED!!! (mabye)
I was just watching the Boiling Rock as it aired on TV for the first time, and at the end there was a mini-trailer for the Southern Raiders!
It was fairly Katara-centric, showing many scenes from the ninja mission that she goes on with Zuko. Most of it was exciting explosions and waterbending, as well as a scene of Katara throwing shards of ice at the guy who presumably killed her mother.
The scene that shippers are interested in however, showed Katara, wearing her DoBS clothes, standing on what looked like the edge of a cliff in the rain screaming at Zuko, saying that she had trusted him, and he had betrayed her.
So there's definitely going to be a fairly major Zuko/Katara emotional confrontation tommorow night.
This is, quite frankly, the last throw of the dice for Zutara. Even if they make up and become friends, if there is no movement towards being romantically attached towards eachother, not even the tiniest hint, I think that we can safely presume Zutara ended.
Zutara will stand or fall with the Southern Raiders.

Fix'd.

Zutara as canon may only be friendship, which is good enough for this Zutarian, but what I think Zutarians wanted deep down was more scenes with these two intense characters and now they'll have it.

I want Zuko & Katara to have a good and deep friendship, what I don't want is them to randomly get together, based purely on one mission.
