Anyone here remember Danny Phantom? Nick killed it after two and a half seasons. Fans are still having "Save Danny Phantom" Protests. I have a feeling this will be Avatar's fate as well... |
Seriously? Danny Phantom has been gone for a long time now and people are still protesting? Clearly Nick doesn't care.
Anyway at least we aren't the only ones who realize how much money Nick would make if they made more Avatar products. I own a Wii, but I'm not buying the Avatar game. Seriously almost every game ever based on a TV show or movie is awful. Unless there are really good reviews of this game I'm not buying.
Seriously, they need to get Avatar into places like Hot Topic. I'd buy a shirt like this: http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs27/f/2008/032/3/f/The_shirt_you_WISH_you_had_by_Hentai_Sweetie.jpg
Been thinking about making my own, too(with iron-on transfer thingies).
Keychains, stickers, etc., would also be wonderful.
Edit: Great find, thanks for posting this, Lisa!
Nickelodeon dosen't know how to work with a great show like Avatar.
Nickelodeon=Major faceplam

| For some reason I think the only way Nick would ever "take the hint" is if some one else made there own Avatar merchandise (ignoring the legality issues because they could make a quick buck) and sold it out to all the rabid Avatards. Nick would be sure to try to end this distributor and cash in on that good idea. Either that, or we start posting up fake threads/videos and say it's the BR episodes and have it be filled with demands of merchandise us fans want instead. They seem to be quick at spotting stuff like that to get it removed. |

Heck yeah it does! T-shirts man, I'd be all about the T-shirts. I think it'd be cool to make a shirt for each nation with the symbol on it.
Nickelodeon SHOULD advertise more...it's always that sponge >_>
The most high rated show on nick being crushed and ignored. Hate it

You know, a friend of mine and I were talking about that. For my 17th birthday, she got her boyfriend to draw an original picture of Toph (he's in an art college, and rocks at everything like that). So then, the entire family pooled their knowledge of computers and actually printed this amazing work of Tophness awesome onto a sweatshirt. So yes, I have a custom Toph sweatshirt that I wear proudly. We could make a business out of that, shirts can be printed pretty fast. Then again, they already sell Avatar shirts (though none as awesome as my own).
Yeah, that's my basically unhelpful story.

Actually that story is extremely helpful and I've thought of something along the same lines. There is an INCREDIBLE amount of superior fanart for Avatar on Deviant Art. Wouldn't it be so cool if these art pieces were screened on T-shirts, canvas bags or sweat shirts with the artwork on the front and the DA logo and artist's name on the back? Exactly what you were thinking Raven.
The only catch is that someone would have to be a financial patron of this effort because Nick owns the rights to Avatar and as such no money could exchange hands between the artist and the fan.
Case in point I was talking to Rufftoon aka Johanne Matte the other day on DA and she told me she can't even accept payment for her Zhao storyline that she had self-published. She was giving them away at the NYCC for free.
For those of you who don't know there is an entire story after Zhao is captured by the Koi Fish/Aang in the Avatar state, where he washes up on the shore of a Water Tribe village and slowly learns to play well with others and reap his karma for past actions.
Now if you have purchased any of the S3 individual DVDs you will know Matte as the artist who drew the bonus comic storyline that is contained in the DVD.
People she works for Nickelodeon and even she can't charge for her artwork related to Avatar.
I think this is going to be like everything else in Avatar fandom...it will be the work of hardcore fans doing something spectacular for the community in a totally selfless way.
Remember Kevin Coppa's uber-awesome coverage of the SDCC last year? He gave a series of video reports professionally done describing the entire con for those who couldn't go. At the NYCC this year he is responsible for the 'Avatar: The Last Puppetbender' video short.
All of this is done with no financial backing from other fans. He did it funded solely out of his own pocket and for the good of the fandom community.
Same thing goes for Acastus with ASN. I am always on his case but truly he has attended comic cons and brought back coverage for all fans with no financial backing either.
The same goes for Collin and Jon with Avatar Portal. The exclusive on-camera interview with Mike and Bryan came about through these guys using their Christmas and birthday monies to travel to NY for the con.
But you know necessity is the mother of invention and truth be told I don't think we can count on Nick to get why these items are so important and why they would be preciously coveted by Avatar fans.
Summary: We will have to do this on our own and fund it ourselves.
It's sad. I would defo buy a Momo pluche and Appa Pluche or 'maps of the four nations'. Maybe wise Iroh slogans on posters or keychains or something. However all they have here in the shop are just one little box with strange tiny avatar surprise eggs that only contain 'aangs' with a crooked arrow on the head.
Quality and look needs to go up, no more 6-11. Nickelodeon should stay more in touch with the fans and what they need...but I guess since there's not going to be a fourth season, it's too late. I WANT MOMO PLUCHE!

lol. The dagger; take it to school and be arrested .
I'm not good with Copyright laws and stuff. But I have to say it's really sad even workers in the Nick industry can't sell there own 'less official' products for money for Nickelodeon. Couldn't Nickelodeon buy some of the fanarts and then sell it under some nametag 'by the base, for the base' and maybe add a little campaign of 'fairtrade' to it, part of the money going to 'FREE TIBET' or something? (So lol; then let's not have it made in china)
