Aang and Katara have no future. His first priority is being the Avatar, this isn't soemthing new either, remember in the first season they made their way to the fire nation temple even though aang was barely trained in the other elements and katara's water bending skills weren't that great at all, risking all their lives because he had to. He will give her up there can be no doubt about it, doesn't mean that it will be easy for him though.
Totally agree with you! His first and far most important duty is to save the world. Period! End of story. I'm not say that he has to give her up as a friend, or even as a fighting buddy but hopefully he's realize where his real responiblity is.
ok im not trying to be meen or anything, but i mean even though aang is the avatar, he's the ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD WHO CAN'T LOVE. sure, he HAS to save the world, but maybe theres some other feelings he has, fer a someone aka katara. i meen, aang KNOWS his first reponsbility is to be the avatar and save the world, and what not... but he can love, he has feelings and he is human., why should being the avatar stop him by feeling love?
I did'nt say he couldn't love, we already know he does. He just cant let that stand in the way of everything else he has to do. Plus its not like Katara is going to be the last girl he'll ever meet. Also isn't it more important that Aang learn how to master being the avatar even if it means letting Katara go if it means it'll save the world? If he doesn't do what needs to be done (and that may include letting katara go) and he doesn't beat the fire lord then there wont be much of a world left for anyone to be in love in will there?

Maybe there is a way to have both. In every movie where a guy has to save the world he "gets the girl and saves the world". Then again, avatar is far from normal. Aang is in love Katara too much to simply give her up. Its going to break his little heart. Think what happened when only his pet was taken. Now substitute pet for "true love". If that in its self won't put him into the avatar state , nothing will. He has a hard decision to make. Maybe he'll find a way to get both, hopefully.

    Long live Kataang!

it's kind of hard to believe that a 12-year old kid knows what?? true love is and second, his feelings for Katarra??can and probably will??cloud his judgement about the choices he makes. Continuing with the Star Wars comparison, Anakin Skywalker killed just about all the Jedi, people who were supposed to be his family and friends, to protect the one he loves. Being the avatar Aang has the power to do something like that. Remember what he did to the Earth Kingdom base in "The Avatar State".

I believe that what Aang is feeling is true love. Katara was the first person Aang ever saw after being brought to live after many years and that created a special bond between the two that can not be broken. This bond may or may not be true love but it is there and nothing the Guru says can make Aang give it up. Also, I know this may be alittle off topic, but is it true that monks can't marry? Aren't they not allowed too?

Buddhist monks aren't allowed to marry because marriage is a form of "an earthly desire" which monks are taught to avoid. But in Avatar's case the Air Nomads have to reproduce and continue their lineage somehow.

I guess....but I haven't seen many girl airbenders. Most of them were old men. The only lady was the one in the flashback "Appa's Lost Days".

personally, i think Zuko will teach him. His other bending teachers are kids so why should fire be any different. Also, in season 3 the GAang is supposed to go to the fire nation and Iroh being a famous General and part of the royal family would be easily recognized. So on that note Iroh either has to leave Zuko or something is going to happen to him. Which would probably be he...........ah, you know.

Sokka was older (more mature possibly), and Yue herself told Sokka that she needed to sacrifice herself. That had more of an impact on him. I doubt that Katara is going to stand by him (when he's with the guru) shouting "forget about me you fool, leave me!"

Its not about her leaving him, its about him realizing that loving her cant come first. I'm sure she would say that saving the world is more important than his personal feelings for her. She was support that fact!

I think you misunderstoond me. Yes, I agree with you that she would want Aang to do whats best for the world, but what I mean to say was that Yue was right there next to Sokka telling him in person that she needed to do it. Katara won't be there, so Aang will hav eto make up his decision not knowing that Katara will want him to do what's best for the world.

Well then the thing I read about them being ALLOWED to marry is false...And now that I think about it, so is Inuyasha. There's this character Miroku and he's a Buddhist monk yet he's going to get married.

As for the lineage thing, I think the monks in Avatar CAN get married, as angel10113 said. If they weren't, the airbenders would've died a long time ago...more than over a hundred years.

Would the writers really do this though? Have this Kataang thing 'going on' then abolish it cuz he can't be with her? Or are they trying to point us to a new ship with Aang? Or are they trying to make an internal battle happen with Aang?

I'll go with??Internal Battle for 100 points! Its called the crossroads of destiny... this is going to be the fork in the road and depending on how both Aang and Zuko choose will determind the fate of the world.

Ummmm, just FYI: when you get married there is no stork that comes??by and??drops a baby off at your house.?? The air nomads don't need marriage in order to reproduce.?? In fact this is something that I was wondering about, how come people get married but we have yet to see a church, or the prsense of any religion in the show???In the??Avatar wolrd,??is marriage more along the lines of a legal proceding, or a relgious sacrement??? Thoughts?

Have you forgotten the spirit world? As we saw in the North Pole, the people believed in their spirtis, the ocean and the moon. I'm guessin that each nation believes in their own spirit that recognizes their bending abilities or their own nation. But they also believe in the Spirit World as a whole. We also haven't seen any marriges so who's to say that they don't have any religous ceremonies for a marrige. I believe that they would have some sort or religous cermony or marking of the joining of two people. But I could be wrong.

I dont think a kids show would encourage having kids without getting married. In regards to the religion thing, I dont know.

Dunno. It took the writers a while to show us a funeral in the Avatar world, we might have to wait for season 3 to see a marriage. I really hope we do.

The Water tribes have a ceremony for engagement(carving a necklace), so I would say there has to be a ceremony of some kind for marriage.

Thats true I had forgotten about the necklace thing.

From what im hearing the responses, it sounds like every nation has it's own marriage ceremony.

Just off the top of my head I can Imagine firanation marrige having something to do with the bride and groom lighting of candles. The water tribe might have them mix 2 different colored waters. The earth tribe would have them uhhh, break a rock maybe?
