For the record, a rock is not an organic substance.

Are you sure? It's not made of minerals or anything?

Ok, there are some things to be set into order here. First off: Avatar does NOT use the chinese elements. it does NOT use the greek elements either. it uses the HINDU elements. Aang himself is representative of Hinduism's fifth element, being the bridge between physical and real worlds. There will be no metal or woodbending. I realize im typing with an attitude like im being nasty/ condescending... not trying. disclaimer apologies to all who take/took it that way; just trying to be knowledgeable. XP

An organic substance is defined as anything that contains the element carbon, a nonmetal, where as rocks and minerals contain alkaline earth metals like Magnesium or transition metals like Iron.??Ah see??now you got me doing it.??

I don't think anyone here is seriously pushing for any of those things, most of us are like "that would be cool..." but if it really happend it would be stupid.

So, while earthbenders are bending their quartz and feldspar, mica and hornblende, olivine and biotite, I wonder what metal bending would even look like. Alchemy? Would it matter to even bother to imagine it? Bonne apatite.

you all talk like there arent any metal benders but im sure there are for what aang said in the epid\sode the drill.
he literaly sais: i wish i was a metal bender!!! its probably not gonna be show in the series... but it could be shown... and it would be prety normal if they showed one... furthermore wouldnt a metalbender be a spinoff of an earthbender even though earthbenders can only bend natural metals??

Aang was likely being facetious. Growing up a hundred years ago, he certainly would have heard stories about legendary or mythical metal benders, but he has, as yet, never alluded to any such stories.

no, that wouldn't make any sense. Aang said that he wished he was a metalbender. that doesn't mean there are any. if there were sub-groups that could only bend certain things, that would definitely mess up the balance. Sure, they have Sandbenders but they can bend solid earth, too. It would be weird (and make no sense) if they could bend sand and only sand when regular earthbenders could bend sand and solid earth. it's already been proved that all earthbenders can't bend man-altered metals (it says it on the Nick.com Avatar website) so it wouldn't make sense that there was a subgroup of earthbenders that could.

Why does everyone always jump to conclusions?? "When Zuko fought Jet there was a falsh. Jet must have been firebending. That means he's Ursa's son, which means he's Zuko's brother!" I actually heard someone say that. There are always hints to things in TV shows, and you can assume anything. Its better to just wait for proof

Aang is the avatar... if metalbenders existed and he knew they did, then he would have probably tried to metalbend just to cut into the drill. He has to have SOME kind of idea how to do it. If it even existed...>_>

Earthbenders can bend metal, but it has to be natural metals in the rock. Once it is altered by man, it cannot be bent. Here, I quote from the Nick.com Avatar site: "Earthbending's most significant weakness is its inability to manipulate man altered metals. Firbenders exploit this weakness by smelting metal to remove it natural impurities, and then using it to construct their armor, ships, and forts." That is why. Here's a link for you to check yourself:??http://www.nick.com/all_nick/tv_supersites/avatar2/index.jhtml?gquit=true. Click on one of the nation symbols in the corner of the map, then click on "The Bending Arts" and then scroll down to Earthbending. But next time ask??any questions you have in the Ask A Question, Get An Answer Thread at the top of the forum. Thank you.??

We should be talking less about bending metals and more about seeing Earthbenders move some gems around. I think if Kat's gonna run around with some water in a flask, thier star Earthbender should carry around a diamond and ruby around. You could cut anything with that! Pretty hot.
