You expect realism in a movie based on a cartoon?
The last Cartoon I've seen that dealt with real stuff was As Told By Ginger.
But this is high-flying fantasy kung-fu action. That was typical pre-teen melodrama.

All the more reason for it to be PG-13. I for one would be very happy if it was PG-13, and I don't think it would affect the marketing towards children. PG-13 is not that bad anyway.

the only things bad in PG-13 are: language, violence, nudity, sex(may be) and some other stuff, but do you think avatar would have language or sex?
I hope they include this scene!

Seduction!Sokka? Oh Hell yeah! I hope it's in the show too! Though I kind of have my doubts judging by how odd the animation looked; it was more fluid that the normal Avatar animation. If it is in the show, it's probably going to be in SR.

damn, you beat me to it.

i've had a funny feeling that this would end up pg 13, but dont forget that disney has the narnia series out there (the first 2 being pg) and their doing really well in theatres. the same with the first 3 harry potters. pg might not be a bad thing. that being said, i think that pg 13 will make this a much more thrilling, entertaining movie that more people will be willing to see. hopefully they dont have the same people marketing it as they do now.

the one thing that concerns me is how he describes the show. ie, "a ten year old in the center of it" and "two of which [kingdoms] are planning to go to war". he needs to get a few facts straight to please us fans before he starts production.

and imdb really needs to take this off their pro account.

You know what I am looking forward to most about Shyamalan's movies? And really this is so pathetic, but I want to SEE who the rest of Avatar fandom really is. LOL

I mean you see your fellow Avatards online all of the time and maybe you get close to a couple of them and chat online or over the phone and such. Or if you are lucky you go to Comic Conventions and bask in the Avatary glow of it all.

But for once I want to be in a freakin' theater chock-full of fellow Avatarians, rubbing elbows, laughing our backsides off at things that no one else in the world understands unless they share our common addiction to Avatar and Bryke.

More than anything else I want to be knee-deep in the Avatar ambiance at the movies with my 'own kind.' LOL

Excuse me as I relish the thought of that. *faints*

Not likely. That's in Book 3. This movie is based on Book 1.

For what it's worth, which is not all that much, Nick sent this release about the movie to newspapers Tuesday afternoon (c. 4:30p.m. EST):

NEW YORK, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Nickelodeon kicked off Licensing International Expo 2008 today at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center with star power, including a presentation by special guest M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Happening) and Nickelodeon Movies' and Paramount Pictures' executives, where attendees got a preview of Shyamalan's July 2, 2010, theatrical film in the making, The Last Airbender. Also at Licensing Show, iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove was on-hand to sign copies of the brand-new iCarly album, just released today, for show attendees who stopped by the Nickelodeon booth.

During the presentation for The Last Airbender, Academy Award(R)-nominated writer/director Shyamalan commented, "Casting has begun and we've seen thousands of kids. I believe we've found the next superstars." In recounting his excitement about the project and how he got involved, Shyamalan recalled, "I called up my agent and said I have a movie I want to do. We phoned Paramount and Nickelodeon, and told them that we think they have the next STAR WARS."

Shyamalan also discussed how he came to work on the Avatar film, crediting his daughter as his first introduction to the action-oriented series. "I sat down and watched four television episodes back-to-back with my kids. We were riveted. I said, 'This would make a phenomenal movie!' My wife said, 'This is the one you've been waiting for."

Cyma Zarghami, President of Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group, began the morning's presentation, touching on the strength of the Nickelodeon brand and future plans for the hit property. "We're tremendously excited about the growth potential as new audiences meet our hero in live-action form in The Last Airbender," she said. "[1/8]Nickelodeon[3/8] is developing initiatives to super-serve the show's hardcore super-fans in anticipation of The Last Airbender's premiere."

Also present were Paramount Film Group's President, John Lesher, and Paramount Pictures' Vice Chairman, Rob Moore, who voiced their anticipation of The Last Airbender. Both Lesher and Moore cited the film as "one of those rare event movies that moves audiences globally and ensures the franchise a long, prosperous future."

Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) President, Leigh Anne Brodsky, closed the presentation remarking about potential future Avatar licensing and merchandising programs. "We're especially optimistic about this movie's prospects given The Last Airbender's already rabid, global fan base. The Last Airbender is a living, breathing, organic brand that's poised to explode, [1/8]and[3/8] our strategy is to work with partners who want to authentically build the brand around the globe."

    Holy crap this is news!

Nick expresses their intent to make the movie a hit but why on earth did they taint the last season of this great series with their abysmal scheduling?

Is this the best day ever, or the best day ever? First my Youth Pastor goes into labor, and now this news!

I'm practically drooling and shaking at the moment. I have to calm down..

I'll be surprised if Nick allows a PG-13 movie. I hope that they do though. The story can be much darker that way.

Personally I dont like M Night. In fact when I heard he was going to make the avatar movie I was afraid he was going to ruin it like all his movies I have seen been for me. BUt after hearing this news I have a little more faith in the avatar movie. But we will have to wait and see

Man this alone could be its own thread open for discussion. I have to laugh at the way Nick markets us to potential advertisers like they've been our best friends and pro-Avatar and pro-fandom all along...LIARS! LOL

Maybe the Avatar fandom could ally with the Earthbound fandom. Two of the most obsessive, rabid, opressed, abused fandoms of the interwebs joining together to get what they want from The Big Ns

Seriously... I see soooo many similarities. Except that Earthbounders have it a lot worse to be honest.
