I actually don't think he died. If the writers were going to kill him, they would have had him die right then and there. However, I do think he's permanently injured. Of course, we didn't actally see where the rock hit him. If it caught him under the chin, it probably would have broken his neck. If it hit him in the torso, the force might have broken some vertebrae. Either way, I think he's most likely paralyzed. |
I don't think jet died, this is due to the fact that he was hit squarely in the sternum and body by an evenly shaped object, unless it shattered his ribcage, highly unlikely, it can't have killed him, it did however do a crippling amount of damage

Sigh... This discussion will never end until the actual show says he's dead or not. The arguments of those thinking he may die are: - Long Feng stating 'He has chosen his own demise.'- just because he says so doesn't make it true, especially since he's plainly much too confident in his own power. - Katara saying 'This isn't good." - of course, it isn't good... he's seriously injured. But he IS still alive. - Toph saying Jet lied- Jet lied about being fine; but he isn't fine, he's seriously wounded. This doesn't mean he's going to die. - Smellerbee crying; this looks bad, but it may also be just Smellerbee getting emotional at seeing her leader and someone she obviously loves seriously hurt. - Smellerbee 'closing' Jet's eyes... this is false; she is NOT closing his eyes, she is rubbing his forehead to comfort him (the motion is repeated, not a single motion). - Longshot apparently readying to give Jet a 'mercy killing' arrow; This is RIDICULOUS. He is getting ready to defend them from any Dai Li who may approach. - Katara being tearful and sorrowful at the end... of course, she is feeling guilty since she was so hard on Jet, and then he proved to be a better man than she thought. And of course, she's worried for the guy over the rest since she DID have a crush on him, which is made pretty obvious. - Tons of reasons involving internal injuries and all that jazz. Arguments for those thinking he may live... - The revelation of the Rough Rhinos being the ones who destroyed Jet's village; this opens up the possibility of his future being eventually getting back at these villains. This wouldn't be just revealed and then just have Jet killed off unless the creators have a sadistic mean streak. - Characters have gotten seriously injured before and recovered- Iroh took a terrible injury and was speculated to die for a long time before he was revealed to be alive an episode later. Jet was hit hard by an earthbending attack, and it was made dramatic, perhaps indeed for the reason that he is indeed marked to be killed off. But whether he does indeed die after the episode, is still uncertain. I am just saying that there's a plain chance for Jet to be alive, given that the cliffhanger for his character is great for drama and keeping fans uptight. It also serves as a way of keeping the burden of the series finale squarely on the Aang gang, and not having to involve too many supporting characters. For the record, I hope he lives since he's proven himself?? redeemed and I want him to continue and find the new life he and his freedom fighters were looking for. That's worth more than 'dramatic effect' for me. Good karma for the good. |

Why is it assumed Nick can't show death when Nick has shown cartoony violence in Spongebob, Invader Zim, Danny Phantom, and such. I have to agree, CDRipper, who makes an overwhelming case to be open-minded about Jet injury or imply death. Whatever the case, it has gotten ton of reaction and really shows how popular(or unpopular) the character Jet is. Also, speculating...could some ppl want Jet to be dead to make room for Aang or Zuko ships for Katara? Its seemed to me Kat still cared for Jet more than she was willing to admit and her fighting hard in their first meeting in Ba Sing Se was NOT ONLY about Jet betrayal, but her feelings as well. I agree that the producers will clear this up and then we'll all know. |
