I think he might be one of those "You-just-think-I-died-but-I'll-come-back-later" people.?? You know, everyone THINKS they're dead, but then a few eps. later, they're back with a ven!

Sigh... This discussion will never end until the actual show says he's dead or not.

The arguments of those thinking he may die are:

    - Long Feng stating 'He has chosen his own demise.'- just because he says so doesn't make it true, especially since he's plainly much too confident in his own power.
    - Katara saying 'This isn't good." - of course, it isn't good... he's seriously injured. But he IS still alive.
    - Toph saying Jet lied- Jet lied about being fine; but he isn't fine, he's seriously wounded. This doesn't mean he's going to die.
    - Smellerbee crying; this looks bad, but it may also be just Smellerbee getting emotional at seeing her leader and someone she obviously loves seriously hurt.
    - Smellerbee 'closing' Jet's eyes... this is false; she is NOT closing his eyes, she is rubbing his forehead to comfort him (the motion is repeated, not a single motion).
    - Longshot apparently readying to give Jet a 'mercy killing' arrow; This is RIDICULOUS. He is getting ready to defend them from any Dai Li who may approach.
    - Katara being tearful and sorrowful at the end... of course, she is feeling guilty since she was so hard on Jet, and then he proved to be a better man than she thought. And of course, she's worried for the guy over the rest since she DID have a crush on him, which is made pretty obvious.
    - Tons of reasons involving internal injuries and all that jazz.

Arguments for those thinking he may live...
    - The revelation of the Rough Rhinos being the ones who destroyed Jet's village; this opens up the possibility of his future being eventually getting back at these villains. This wouldn't be just revealed and then just have Jet killed off unless the creators have a sadistic mean streak.
    - Characters have gotten seriously injured before and recovered- Iroh took a terrible injury and was speculated to die for a long time before he was revealed to be alive an episode later.

Jet was hit hard by an earthbending attack, and it was made dramatic, perhaps indeed for the reason that he is indeed marked to be killed off. But whether he does indeed die after the episode, is still uncertain. I am just saying that there's a plain chance for Jet to be alive, given that the cliffhanger for his character is great for drama and keeping fans uptight. It also serves as a way of keeping the burden of the series finale squarely on the Aang gang, and not having to involve too many supporting characters.

For the record, I hope he lives since he's proven himself redeemed and I want him to continue and find the new life he and his freedom fighters were looking for. That's worth more than 'dramatic effect' for me. Good karma for the good.
Man, this is one great post. I do agree that killing him after seeing that the Rough Riders have importance to this story would be wrong. I was watching LL again today and thought of this. The Fire Nation had to destroy Jet's village for a reason, right? So the reason why they did this could be because Jet's family/village had a powerful secret/power/etc. that could threaten FN. Jet could possibly have a full recovery thanks to whatever it is.

I highly agree. they wouldn't show that and then just kill him off. There has to be a reason, so Jet might live.

I actually seriusly think Jet died. (ducks tomatoes) b/c of the thickly layered implying. (ducks more tomatoes) but what do I know? I x-treamly really seriously WANTED Logan (Gilmore Girls) to die when he parchuted off the cliff.

Good gried Bobton123456..havent you heard of that old saying 'there is not stupid question just stupid answers?" If timekitten has a question, let them ask it without ridicule. Be nice.

Back on topic...we will not know what happened to Jet until show producers either tell us or from future episodes. Either way, the idea of the Freedom Fighters joining with Team Avatar is very exciting.

I posted this one??a similar thread.

About what happened, Long Feng was boasting like any villain. Everyone was upset and crying because it's been a long while since the reality of death has touched their lives. Toph said he was lying because they all knew it was serious, but she's no doctor.

If Jet died, wouldn't Longshot and Smellerbee just hurry out of the tunnels with his body. Why else would Longshot draw his arrow, ready to fight to protect Jet. If he was sure it was his time, he would have wanted his friends to leave him, rather than risk getting caught. But they stayed.

I think that we may see another form of the freedom fighters. I'm guessing that we haven't seen the last of the Blue Spirit, either. I think that just as Zuko get comfortable, the Blue Spirit will show up. It will be a healed and mind controlled Jet with mind controlled Longshot and Smellerbee. They might have had a waterbender with healing ability under the lake somewhere, or some kind a doctor/medic in the facility.

If Zuko has to battle a mind-controlled Jet, then it would take the Avatar, or most likely Katara, to step in and bring him back to sanity and stop Zuko from going to far.

It could go either way. I agree that revealing who burnt Jet's village to the ground wouldn't be revealed unless they weren't finished with Jet's character yet. Course having Katara say she can't heal him also has meaning, seeing as how that would imply the wounds are beyond healing. So it could go either way really. Jet could survive and take on the Rough Rhino's, or Longshot, Smellerbee could refound the Freedom Fighters in Jet's honor and avenge him.

Yeah, I'm starting to really feel that Jet will make yet another great comeback. I say we will see him again around the end of the fourth book.

Don't think so. An arrow doesn't excatly kill instantly. It looked more like he was guarding Jet.

It looked like he was pointing the arrow toward a door or something.

    *Is slow*

DAMN. Something did happen to Suki didn't it? I'm sorry guys, i've been on the slow side lately, I thought the last we saw her and Azula were about to fight? It doesn't have to end badly for her!

But ontopic... I do think Jet died. And i know none of ya'll said it, but some think Smellerbee and Longshot were killed too since they were in there and there were so many Dai Lei guys....but eh.....No. I'm pretty sure they got out alright.

Wait, what happened to Suki again?

Showing the rough rhinos does NOT indicate that he'll come back later to execute vengeance on them. I can think of 3 reasons why they'd show it:

    1. For the internal emotional development arc of Jet within this particular episode.

    2. Becuase the creators are obsessed with bringing back old characters.

    3. To build up the evil of the rough rhinos character, though not for Jet's sake.

Personally, I hope Jet doesn't come back, because I don't like the character. He's too one-dimensional and "Jet" wasn't a very good episode (too predictable, for one thing).
