Last night i started watching season one, from The boy in the iceberg to Imprisoned, and i was really enjoying them, but something was wrong, i felt like i was enjoying them more than the new episodes. So i started to wonder why.
Let's talk about early episodes, specially "The Southern Air Temple", if you watch it you see all this mystery, depth and humor, that makes the series so great, but look at the way they FIGHT, look how is??hugely based on real martial arts, Zuko and Zhao actually have physical contact, look how the "camera" show us their movement, their feet moving on the ground creating fire, they were able to create great excitement with out showing incredible and colorful beams of light, or huge balls of fire. They concentrated on the martial arts, the movement of their bodies and the environment and music made it perfect!!
So what happened. Now they don't concentrated on the martial arts or the movement as much as they did, now everyone just throws their bending "whips" or huge fireballs that make the show lose some of it's realism. I would love to see the actually hitting each other on a fight, but instead the just attack from a great distance, and the few physical contact is followed by a huge explosion or something. Where is the art???
I understand this is a show made for kids, and kids enjoy big power balls more than fighting style and art, but don't you thing the show has become a bit exaggerated?? We don't want ridiculous powers or a new DBZ, do we?? OF COURSE NOT!!
I know they got much better on bending, therefore their attacks should be much powerful, but you don't need colorful fireballs to show the great power of a character, just imagine how cool would Zuko be if he fought as he did on TSAT, but with much more experience.
now don't get me wrong, "avatar" is my favorite show on tv, and i'm crazy about it, but i'm 17 and i think a bit more realism would make the show far more than perfect.
So what do you think, did they exaggerated the show to make young kids happy??
