I'm Fed Up -- Prove Zutara to Me

    First of all, very nice list, LordMordor.

    It's perfectly understandable that you want to see this proven. After all, there is almost NO evidence thus far that it will happen, and there has been a heap of Kataang moments. However, LordMordor is right: people will make ships even without any supporting evidence at all. If they like the idea, they do not care what the show is leaning towards. Besides, there is always fanfiction.

    As for Kataang, I like the pairing, but I think that a few years should pass before it happens. That will make it more reasonable.

    Man, i feel so lost i havent seen avatar in a while and cause of the new previews i went all nuts now i have like half of this season to catch up to...any which episode was that one were Zuko didn't deny she was his girlfriend and the ass grab one. lol

    Its so true whats been said basically throughout this forum.

    No proof is needed to have interest in a ship.

    I know I didn't have any real proof when I started shipping Zutara over the summer, and I didn't even know it was called shipping then. I just thought to myself "it'd be pretty cool if Zuko and Katara ended up together" and from that day forward I liked the idea, then I started reading fan fictions again and saw there was a whole world of Zutaraians out there, and that kept the ship alive for me.

    Before I started shipping, I didn't really have any feelings about any character couples, other than supporting Sokka and Yue until she died.

    After I started shipping, I started to see why I didn't think Kataang would work.

    It just grew from there. I know me and some of my friends (fellow zutaraians) started making a list of "if this happened instead of this... INSTANT ZUTARA" and that started because of the episode The Chase we were like "if Zuko had let Katara heal Iroh INSTANT ZUTARA" it was a joke that turned into this huge thing.

    Plus if you dont focus only on whats happened, but what could happen there are tons of ways Zutara could happen, the most used being Zuko joins the group. Its the most commonly used idea, and its true if Katara and Zuko really got to know each other, theres no reason it wouldn't work between them. (notice i said between them, not between them and sokka and aang!)

    Haha. Oh, yeah. She REALLY seems to like him in "The Fortune Teller." Just watch. In the season finale, aang will finally tell her how he feels, and she will tell him they're just friends, then kiss him. This is just an educated guess.


    It's called a "Character Arc." You are absolutely correct that Katara did not like Aang in "The Fortune Teller" (you could argue that she does at the end of that episode, but I don't think so).

    However, she clearly likes him by now. Again, it's called "character development."

    (Sorry if that sounded crass; it wasn't meant to sound that way).

    As for why Zutara exists . . . here's my own unsubstantiated guess: the majority of hardcore Zutara shippers are fangirls who think Zuko is hot and angsty and manly, and via wish fulfillment they place themselves in Katara's shoes (whether conciously or not) and want her to fall for Zuko like they already have. And all it took was that scene in "The Waterbending Scroll" for them to start thinking along those lines.

    That's my "Zutara Theory," anyway.


    I'm a hardxcore Zutara shipper but I'm not anywhere near a hardxcore Zuko Fangirl. I think thats a horrible way to sterotype Zutaraians, I mean cant people just support a ship anymore... but whatev it is your opinion after all.

    Here's my two cents (Note: Me + Shipping= Could careless.)

    1. The Fortune Teller could have been seen two different ways: that Katara didn't like Aang or that she was so busy with all the fortunes she was being told that she never really THOUGHT about Aang until at the very end of the episode when Sokka mentioned that he forgot how strong of a bender Aang was. (And she was told she would marry a strong bender.)?? For the entire episode, I find it remarkable so many people have forgotten the small yet seeming significant part of the entire episode.?? I've heard people say that 'strong bender' remark could be ass. with Zuko but then again, that really depends on if you think Zuko is that strong a bender to begin with.?? ::hunches::

    2. While there are hints to Katara & Aang, those exact same moments can be taken differently.?? For example: we know that Aang likes Katara.?? But that doesn't mean a thing if it's all one sided.?? And even I have to admit, expect for few moments (and Zuko/Katara have had fewer if any at all, just admit it) it appears more to me that she seems him more like family than a potiential boyfriend.??Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a show where the main guy and girl don't have to become love interest--I liked thinking it was more of a 'family relationship'.?? But even if Katara doesn't like Aang, that doesn't mean by any strech she likes Zuko--actually, if memory serves me correctly, she still has some, even if they are light, feelings for Jet. ::winks::

    3. As for Kutara/Zuko--to be honest, the pairing annoys me, because it almost appears that they're being shipped for cliche' reasons. (And let it be known that Kat/Aang annoys me to some degree.) One has the elmement of water, the other fire, their personality clash to some degree, every little moment they share is somehow twisted into cannon shipping (Not as bad as Hermione/Harry from that shipping war but hey...)--the only solid thing I've seen IS Katara touching Zuko's face and even that's questionable given the reason.??

    4. Though I agree that it's not solely fan girls of Zuko that want to see Katura with him (I personally, don't like the idea at all...) but it might a few things: 1. Some people like so-called 'far-fetched' ships.?? I'm one of them, though I think this is just as cliche' as Kutara ending up with Aang. 2. Zuko is a 'rival' of sorts and I've noticed people love pitting love interest in the way of rivals. 3. Both Katara and Zuko, while not the main character of the story, are important secondary characters and it's a common thing to always pair of the main characters with one another.

    Overall, I can't help but think both sides are going to be slightly disappointed with how the season finale turns out.?? Hence, why I'm watching it for you know--the entire Azula in BSS thing and what the heck is up with the Dai Li.?? Oh yeah...and my favorite earthbending loud mouth, Toph.

    ...You just killed ALL the ships, ya know that?? And why do people thing ZUTARA is the only crazy one out there?!!? JET LEE-Jet & Ty Lee; JONG-Jet & Song; TY AZUKA-Azula & Sokka....These are crazy because they either haven't met, are trying to kill eachother, or stand for everything the other is against. So, go bother the Yue/Jet's and Aang/Jun's and LEAVE US ALONE!!!! Heck, go pick on the Jetara's, they take Katara away too!

    Aang/Katara and Zuko/Katara, while being the main ships, are not the ONLY ships, therefore, I did not kill all of them, nor is this thread about any other ship other than the pair (and A/K to a small degree) therefore, I do not have to discuss any other ship. Truth be told, both ships have their problems and both have the potiential not sail, though Aang/Katara is thus far, stronger than Zuko/Katara at this point. I'm not intentionally trying to ruin anything, I'm taking at look at both ships from a 3rd person, unbiased view, since I don't care who Katara ends up with. (Though truth be told, she's only been shown as seeing interest in Jet, with questionable Aang maybe moments.)

    This is absolutely ridiculous, there is no "solid" proof for either ship because when you're a diehard fan for something it doesn't matter how far-fetched your idea may be, what??little of a chance it had for happening or how hard other shippers yelled at you, all people see things defferently; what people see as truth others can see as hopeful speculation. If you're looking for actual proof you're wasting your time, trust me, I've spent tons of time looking for proof to ships and I haven't found anything that couldn't be taken in another way, wasn't completely ridiculous, or was??just, like I said, hopeful speculation. Until one of the shipping characters is married off there will be no real proof, in fact there will probably never be any real proof because this is an animated show! The writers are paid to drive us insane so we'll watch the show, nothing can be taken as "true" or "proof" because none of us know for sure. The only people's opinions who really matter are the writers and the creators but you won't find either of them on these boards.

    This is really interesting that this thread should come up now. I recently found a series of Zutara foreshadowing vids on YouTube. Here they are. Some of the evidence is a bit of a stretch, but its the best support for Zutara I've seen so far.

    Wow those all stretch the lines of reality. I say they're freaks. Taking serious, and even comical moments, and twisting them into Zutara propoganda.

    1. Katara is a female. Females natural instincts are to care for babies, no matter their origin. If a lady has a homeless Arab child end up on her doorstep and she decides to care for it, WILL SHE END UP WITH AN ARAB GUY? That there makes no sense.
    2. In Bato of the Water Tribe Katara was clearly being sarcastic at the end. Even Sokka can see that. It was a big Kataang moment, yet Zutarians are trying to put it off as a huge moment for them. Ugh...someone's sarcasm meter is turned off.
    3. Oh man, Zuko is NOT a powerful bender. Aang is, Sokka even said so. At last we checked Zuko was still learning "the basics". Besides, since the last time they fought, Aang now has 2 more elements under his belt, and is way more powerful than Zuko.
    4. The whole scene with Jun calling Katara Zuko's g/f was just for humor, holy crap. Besides, any straight male would not object to someone saying some pretty young gal is his g/f unless it's actually true
    5. Recall Zuko still did take Katara's necklace, certainly knowing it's hers. If anything he's a thief, but people say it was big for Zutara. As Katara herself said, "Go jump in a river!"
    6. Those clips of Aang being a "child" are all from season 1 no doubt. He has grown up quite a bit this year with all the big things that are happening.
    7. The Katara saying "he's not my boyfriend" was from the 2nd episode..we're at 38 now. Ask her again, she'd probably change her mind
    8. "Katara was the first to know Zuko's name" - Uhhh...she was the first to speak it among the group but that doesn't mean diddly squat. We don't know who really knew his name first, but it likely was Aang because he spent more time on his ship.
    9. You're really stretching it with Oma and Shu. For one, those two were both from the same country, despite their villages are fighting. And I'm sure neither villages killed thousands of warriors from the other side.
    10. The ponytail joke of Katara's was more of a bust on Sokka, who originally said Zuko was a freak with a ponytail.

    What they conviently forgot was Zuko yelling at Katara in The Chase after Iroh was wounded. That there just about contradicts everything they said.

    It's fun to pick apart ships. I have picked apart Kataang before, as well as Zutara. I remain neutral in the war on ships. *is Switzerland, only with a mouth*
