This is not official in any way whatsoever, but it does offer some hope. I got this link from one of the top Avatar fansites about the continuation of Avatar. Apparently, someone ran into Aaron Ehasz after the finale aired. For those who are unaware of who Aaron Ehasz is, he is an executive producer on the show along with Bryke. So this person asked Aaron some questions about the finale and Aaron said there is a definite possibility that Avatar may continue.

    Here is the link.

Two people can channeling the same spirit at the same time? Creepy.

It *would* be more interesting, though, since the new avatar's AS would be more powerful seeing as they have one more avatar to draw upon (Aang)

Just did a quick search on the Comic Con Site. Here is the listing for the Avatar Panel in their program for Friday, July 25:

7:30-9:15 Nickelodeon Avatar: Sozin's Comet- Executive producer and creator team Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino have built one of the most astonishingly complex and beautifully animated series in television with Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. Join Bryan, Mike, and Avatar director Joaquim Dos Santos (G.I. Joe Microseries) for a viewing of the exciting back-half of the Avatar season finale, "Sozin's Comet: Into the Inferno" and "Sozin's Comet: Avatar Aang," followed by a Q&A with the team as they discuss the rich mythology of the series, as well as a costume contest and fan art contest! Moderated by Roland Poindexter, VP, Nickelodeon original programming, animation. Room 6CDEF

Now, I raise this question, yet again: Why would institutions like Comic Con International, and even Viacom itself use the words season finale instead of series finale ?

I guess that you could count the movies, but everyone assumes the animated series for now....

And I just remembered that there was a time difference from New York to San Diego, which means I won't get info until the 26th !

    AHHHHH

Oooh, so anal, I love it!

Through some misfortune or another, the new avatar is set on a bad path.
That...is BRILLIANT! He technically WAS dead. The new avatar could've been born while he was dead and then when Aang is revived there are two avatars in the world. I'd DEFINITELY watch that! Quick, somebody send this idea to Bryke!

there cant be too avatars at once. the avatar is a spirit and there fore cannot dupicate itself

It's been done... Buffy the Vampire Slayer... remember when it was Buffy and Kendra (and then Kendra died and Faith showed up)? Again, been there... I hope they will have more originality.

Well, the sad thing is that I missed the whole community experience. I finished the entire series in a month and never got the whole forum experience!

I hope that the Comic Con and the "interview" yield a Book 4 or some sort of continuation....

I hate when I get into new shows only to find that they have been eradicated....

Avatar became a sort of dream world to me, even for the little time I spent watching it. (And I watch for weeks straight, right after school ended... I think my eyes started to bleed at one point...)

The Avatar universe did what Harry Potter did for me, it offered an alternate reality which I could fully immerse myself.

I really hope that the creators read these boards and decide to continue on with the animated series

So far today, G4 has been covering basically nothing but comic books and comic book movies. The might switch over to TV shows and anime tomorrow, but I don't know.

I wasn't really thinking of duplicating itself, but being torn in half sort of. I know its still farfetched, but we're talking about a world with giant lion turtles with forests on its back, who speaks english and is able to bend the Avatar, a kid who is able to conentrate all the elements (and if you don't know what I mean, watch the Final Battle, while Aang makes those elemental rings around him in the Avatar State, you see the rocks become smaller, and he does this with all the elements, which i thought was really cool).

I mean its just an idea, but I do get the spirit not being able to duplicate itself. Really hadn't considered that. Oh well, i guess we'll never get to see Avatar vs. Avatar, which would be like a dream come true.

I never cared much about Harry Potter ending ..
When Avatar's 'The End' screen came up, I was happy, very sad, very empty inside.
    They MUST continue it.

Somebody needs to really grill Mike and Brian about the post-war Avatar universe or if any continuation (not another season necessarily) is possible. In other words, the big questions. :O

Yeah, like how can the Avatar cycle continue if there are no more airbenders?

Yeah, like how can the Avatar cycle continue if there are no more airbenders?

I happen to know the secret recipe for making Airbenders. It requires 1 Airbender, a woman (or women), some candles, some rose petals, and a Marvin Gaye mix tape.
