Don't you sometimes wish Avatar wasn't a kids show?

I know what you mean but I don't really think Avatar shouldn't be a kid show. I mean seriously, kids stabbing and killing people WOULD NOT LOOK RIGHT ANY WAY YOU THINK ABOUT IT. But I DO wish it was more mature at some times. I'm just relieved it's not an anime anime. >.>

Also, you don't want too much senseless death either, like in some Japanese chambara. Tends to desensitize.

Wel in the southern air temple episode you doe see destruction and death (body/skeleton of monk Gyatsu)

And in the first episode of season 2 when the general wants to trigger the avatar state he le't's Aang look at the wounded soldiers (already bandaged while just returning from the battlefield??) and tells that they are the lucky ones that came back. Then in the storm we hear FN generals making a battleplan that requires new recruits to be sacrificed.

And Zuko gets a blast right in the face (not shown directly, but with sound so you pretty much can visualise that one yourself)

And don't forget Jet got a direct hit to his chest which killed him even though we didn't see him taking his last breath. (kinda weird that Zuko also got a direct hit like that from Toph in 312 and was only a little hurt)

So even though the show doesn't show it explicitly. The soldiers ARE dying out there and you even see a little bit of genocide (Air nomads) and direct hits are made.

Sometimes I'd wish they'd show a bit more on-screen death, doesn't even really need to graphic.

Oh, god, I know what you mean! That's how they all go!

Anyway, I think it bacame quite graphic during The Invasion. You even see the explosion that severely injures Hakoda. I understand that there could be a bit more drama if it wasn't aimed at children but I think it does a great job appealing to all agesin various ways and doesn't need something as mind numbing as violence to gain a larger audience.

Mike and Bryan chose to go to Nick. It was their first choice.

As for violence if you notice that firebenders can blast someone with a blast of fire and it hit them and their clothes aren't even harmed. Its the law of anime. Nothing gets harmed unless the writer wants it to. Look at DBZ. Someone can fire a blast that demolishes a mountain and then fire the same blast at a Z-Fighter and only make small scratches in them, with their clothes completely intact.

I was watching a couple reruns of the season 1 of avatar, and i happened to see chpater 13 the blue spirit. And as i was watching the blue spirit (zuko) fight the fire nation guards, i suddenly kind of wished that avatar wasnt akids show.i meanavatar would be a little more exciting if the waris like how it is in real life, wherewe can actually see ppl die. how can zuko use 2 sharp, steel broad swords, slash them at guards, and not kill a single one of them. and there are never any physical punches or kicks to the body, and there hasnt been a single scene in which we actually saw someone get hit hard with a weapon directly in contact with the body. an example would be "jet" in the beginning, where the archer guy could have just shot his arrows at the firebenders face or body, but instead he just shot the weapons out of their hands, and thats probably why some of da fights in avatar arent as exciting as they could be. i love avatar no matter what and i do love the show right now and what the creators and staff have done with it,but i was just wondering this, so what do you guys think?
yea i have been wishing for some direct punches or one of those good ole anime kicks were they get five feet in the air in slow mo and then kick the guy in the face, and i think this is a frequent topic amoung ppl. i mean obviously ppl die ex when hakoda and sokka and katara blew up the battlements in day of black sun but yea i want to see some good hand to hand combat.

So, you'd like Katara to have flaming pink hair and only see the characters' mouths move up and down? Yeah, Avatar is derived from anime but it's from and 'anime' anime. The point he's making ism if Avatar had all those... weird things true animes had, it would probably take away from the rest of the shows qualities.

I think the Series finale will take a darker turn and things will be shown more explicitly. There's a reason why the show is funny for right now. If anyone remembers "The Secret World of Alex Mack" that show was generally light hearted until the series finale, where the characters were in danger of getting blown up.

I haven't read Harry Potter, but I hear the last book was really dark.

There must be other examples of series taking a dark turn in the last book/episode.

Didn't Clayton die like that too? (Tarzan). And in Oliver & Company, Sykes dies like that.

Tarzan Tangled clayton in vines in the canopy of a tree, and Clayton starts slashing through the vines, but stupidly didn't slash through the one around his neck. Clayton Falls and hangs himself.

nah, just watched it on Youtube, Sykes dies by getting run over by a train. Well, Clayton still technically fell. And Frollo died by falling into a pit of lava. Wow, I got this nostalgic feeling remembering all the Disney deaths.

What about Zhao? A giant hand of water pulled him down into oblivion. Disney, as far as I know, hasn't done anything like THAT. Not to mention... Roku was crushed by, basically, a landslide of ash and rock. That's pretty gnarly.

since no one has posted the forum necromancy thingy yet i guess i'll let this one slide.

on topic: i really can't imagine them not doing a disney death, as much as we'd all like it, the disney death is a certain. although...since it's the last episode of the show ever, maybe nick will let them get away with having a proper death!

I really wish it wasn't a kid show. Then there would be a lot more action. They could make it look real like they do on Heros.
