Don't you sometimes wish Avatar wasn't a kids show?

I totally agree with you. Avatar makes do with what it can do, but is still wasted as a kids show.

Personally I think the shows creators show maturity by implicitly keeping this show for kids. I imagine if they had free reign it would actually do the show a dis-service. It'll be just another Dragon Ball Z . These creators are, in part, forced to make the show more enticing by development and strong plots, rather then mindless violence. All credit to them. They've made a kids show and adult one and memorable to boot.

O.K. good point. You are wise, kosy1.

Wel in the southern air temple episode you do see destruction and death (body/skeleton of monk Gyatsu) And in the first episode of season 2 when the general wants to trigger the avatar state he le't's Aang look at the wounded soldiers (already bandaged while just returning from the battlefield??) and tells that they are the lucky ones that came back. Then in the storm we hear FN generals making a battleplan that requires new recruits to be sacrificed. And Zuko gets a blast right in the face (not shown directly, but with sound so you pretty much can visualise that one yourself) And don't forget Jet got a direct hit to his chest which killed him even though we didn't see him taking his last breath. (kinda weird that Zuko also got a direct hit like that from Toph in 312 and was only a little hurt) So even though the show doesn't show it explicitly. The soldiers ARE dying out there and you even see a little bit of genocide (Air nomads) and direct hits are made.

O.K., these are all hints that the battles happened or will happen, but not actual violence. On this show, they are clever to hint at the mature goings-on, without actually showing it. But my point is just that, this show isn't as violent as you think because we never see the death directly.

Also, just to mention this, it's pretty weird that Jet was killed by that hit from Long Feng, and yet Zuko was completely uninjured when Toph hit him EVEN HARDER!

I have some friends from other counties and I've been watching others shows with them. The shows we were watching we just some typical shows that kids would watch here in the US. The looks on my friends faces were disturbing. They would squent, duck and even turn away from the screen because they thought it was too graphic. I found it funny at first but then it hit me, maybe we are too graphic, not saying other counties don't have worst shows than us. Like in Canada or Germany watching nude people and people having sex, it's like nothing to them, but when it comes to violence, it doesn't get any badder than us. Are we so desensitive to violence that we can't even enjoy a good show with out actually seeing some one get hit. Speaking of nude, why is it ok for Americans to watch naken tribes in Africa, S. America, or Austriala on PBS, but there is something wrong wacthing white women naken on TV or you have to pay 39.99 for Girls Gone Wild. Either its wrong to have naken people on TV or is ok.

Graphic is a relative term. Plenty of other nations do things and have everyday customs and accepted behaviors that would sicken and disgust even the hardest of stomachs. It doesn't make us or them and better or worse. Just different.

As for nudity, it has always been acceptable to display nudity when used in either a scientific or artful nature. In the example cited it was scientific.

To be honest, using a potentially deadly weapon in an effective BUT NON-Leathal manner is much harder than you realise.

Besides, for violent deaths: Silly Rabit, that's what Mortal Kombat games are for!

Avatar is fine the way it is!I mean how Aang will kill Ozai is a mystery but ATLA does wonderfuly without blood gore and cussing. Some shows call for blood and gore but they call for it.Leave Avatar alone!
I've always thought it'd be one of those deaths where the villain would fall off of a cliff or something, but the firelord could probably "propel" back up.

    when was that?

    WAT.

welll i think Long Feng's hit was harder and also if i'm not mistaken it hit jet on the left side (where his heart is)

compared to toph hitting zuko on the right side without aiming. it makes a big difference since hard hits to the heart can kill

dude why do we need ships? Its a fun action show, not a paid programming special on the spanish channel. Besides a week ago I watched clockwork orange and blade runner back to back, then watched avatar, then woke up to watch power rangers, that enough variety for you?

This show kind of reminds me of all the 80's cartoons I used to watch, in which characters would fight, but no one would really get hurt, and especially, killed. Watching G.I. Joe and Thundercats I used to think, "come on, there's no way he survivied that!" And yet he does.

Avatar is funny that way. You know characters should have died or should be dying and yet it never happens no matter how dangerous or how brutal the fight is. In Avatar, there is a lot of combat, bending, swords, martial arts, etc. In real life, many people would lose their lives. I'm not saying I want this show to turn into an overviolent, Fist of the North Star remake, but sometimes I can't help but roll my eyes.

As for it being a kids show, I think its more family. Kids are something only the little tikes will like. Family is something anyone can enjoy regardless of age. Just ask Pixar Studios.
