I dont know if you guys already mentioned this when this episode came out but Guru Pathik is obviously Indian and that confused me a bit because the whole world of avatar is generally asian

So how did a different nationality produce when the only "nationalities" are fire nation, air nomads, earth kingdom and water tribes and all contain just asian people

South Asia is a part of Asia as it clearly says in the name. It is a different part of Asia and may have some slight cultural and physical variation it is a part of Asia nonetheless.

When the Avatar universe refers to Asia, it refers to ALL of Asia (not just China), if that is what you are talking about.

On the contrary - I'm South Asian. Strictly speaking, we are Asians (yeah, we live in Asia). But when you talk in context of race, Asians are generally considered to be Chinese, Japanese etc. We're South Asians - residents of the Indo-Pak subcontinent. Our features, culture etc are much different from other 'Asians.'

The word 'Avatar' is a hindu word which is where the show takes a lot of its mythology from.

To be fair, the original poster does have a point. Most people in the show seem Chinese, Japanese, that sort of Asian. Guru is the only person who appers Indian.

Although the show is chock full of Hindu (mostly Indian religion) philosophy. The word Avatar itself comes from Hindu beliefs. So yeah, Indian's cool too. My best friend's Indian. (but he's from Goa, and he's Christian. So, yeah...)

Correction: Avatar is inspired by Buddhist and Hindu (but mainly Buddhist) culture. Saudi Arabia is also in Asia. So are Turkey and Russia.

But on another note, for people who live as far South as the Pole, have you noticed how dark Sokka and Katara's skins are? They have quite a North Indian/Arab skin colour. Toph, from a warmer climate, is fairer than both of them.

Avatar: sub-incarnation of the major Hindu gods.

Yeah, I know Avatar has its roots in Indian and Asian culture. I was just pointing out that you can't interchange the two terms.

Probably because the waterbenders originated from tropical areas. Swampbenders, for example.

    Pure speculation, BTW.
