mucho true. Uhm just for the sake of discusion i want to raise another point. What did you think guys think of sokka? To me he was a very 1 dimensional charcter, and he was a main character! i would have liked to see more depth from him, but he always seemed shallow and I was not able to relate with him |

Don't get me wrong he's a great character and very comedic, but it's rare for such a main character to be that shallow. And he definatly is a main character. Just as important as Katara or Zuko or Aang, yet they all have alot more depth. It would have been interesting to see a little more depth from him, but at the same time that might have comprised his character.

It's been stated before that the creators never intended sokka to become a big character, and they did way more with sokka than they originally planned anyhow. I think they did ok with him, I mean he's not a bender so there's only so much he can do to impact things |
it's not so much "how he impact things" it's him as a person. even though the writer's never intended for it, it definatly happend, and i'm not even saying its such a bad thing that's he is just a comedic relief, it just interesting how there really is no depth, or insight of his character. unless you wanna take this a step further and say that he uses comedy as a shield to hide/surpress something. hmmm.

What exactly gives a character depth?
The guy's felt as much pain as anyone. He's resourceful and knows how to plan things, which is often the key to the gang's success. He went from novice warrior to skilled fighter. From unconfident soldier who was constantly trying to prove to himself and his father he was a man, actually believing his dad thought he wasn't good enough to go to war, to leader of an invasion force.
When his dad was captured, he risked his own freedom to rescue him. Sacrificed his 2 most valuable possessions to save a friend. I think Suki would agree with me when I say he's deep. (innuendo ftw)

Yes he may have done alot of noble things but that doesn't make a complex character. We have seen no flaws, he doesn't fluxuate his mood, we've never seen his insight, seen him react in a time of hardship. He is a good character, but he is one dimesional.

lol alright. well atleast it's just not me. lol seriously every thread i've seen you on, we always manage to disagree about something. I have a feeling we are two mucho different people.
Well, if you look back towards the fortuneteller when she said something along the lines of you will cause yourself anguish, sokka is definitely wiser, less stubborn and more mature... but it is true they kinda slacked on his development. Even so tho, he developed more than any character on any other tv series out there lol.
and TY for reading my review

His flaw is he's a goof-ball who has trouble fighting. Though usually comedic, we see his angry face, sad face, and serious face. Look at DoBS when Azula mentions Suki, whenever Yue is mentioned, or Sokka's Master where he feels inadequate and inferior to the others. As for hardships, he's had the same amount as everyone in the gang whenever they suffer a defeat since they're all on the same journey. Not to mention Yue's death scene.

still while all those things do make him a good character, it doesn't make it any easier for the viewer to relate to him.

hahaha. He's an awesome character and all, he's just a little, shallow. i heart sokka though. i don't think it'd be good if he was a deep character
