Khuzo(Finally perfected the name, formerly Dosu. Bear with me here, people)
Ridge
(Also take note Itami no longer harbors a last name of any form)
--
Their raft slammed into the beach hard and the force nearly launched Ridge off the raft.
"Man, rough ride, eh?" Ridge asked.
Khuzo pulled out his scimitars. His battle with Itami had granted him both of his father's swords. They were now his to bare, his to wield, and his to use as he pleased. He walked up to the nearby jungle.
"Where are we?" Ridge asked.
"Well, technically we're nowhere. Off the coast of a large swamp like jungle. Nothing is SUPPOSED to be here. But there is something."
"What?"
"The hiding place of someone who can tell me everything I want to know."
"This Smiley guy?"
"Yeah..."
"You know everyone in the criminal underworld, don't you?"
"Yeah....kinda comes with my job. I know pretty much everyone in one way or another, but never as friends."
"That must be harsh."
"It makes business harder because of so many enemies....Keep your wits about you, Ridge. We're being watched..."
They marched along for some time through the jungle, Khuzo cutting massive, thick vines and plants apart with his swords. Ridge followed close behind.
"Man. What I'd give to be a plantbender," he said.
"I've seen it."
"Really? When?"
"I've seen everything.....in one way or another..."
As they chopped along, an arrow suddenly landed directly infront of Khuzo. He stopped moving. Ridge pulled out his bow, but Khuzo signaled him to put it down.
"Wont do you any good, Ridge. We're in their territory..."
Suddenly the thick, saturated vines around them began to move. They encircled their feet, but Khuzo remained still. He turned to see Ridge fighting against them.
"Agh! Get off me!"
"No us, Ridge. Like I said, we're in their territory. The vines are saturated enough for waterbenders to control. You're about to me the most disgusting pig on the planet...wether you want to or not..."
As the vines crawled up their legs Khuzo looked ahead to see a figure standing before them. It was shadowed, but Khuzo knew who it was. He sheathed his swords and let the vines crawl over him. He turned and caught sight of Ridge one last time before they covered him completely.
An hour later, they were removed, sliding off their faces and bodies. All around them were figures on the wall, forced up against it by the plant life. As the plants left Khuzo and Ridge, a massive, fat man who looked too large to walk sat before them on a giant stone slab. He was eating, and it looked as if that was all he ever did. Beside him, a woman was laying almost completely nude, covered by minimal clothing and being controlled by plants wrapped around most of her. She looked at him with a beautiful face matched with horror. She squirmed as best she could when the fat man made an advance.
"Please....help me," she begged. Khuzo looked upset, but did nothing.
"Whoa, that's SICK. We gotta help her," Ridge yelled. He was free.
"We can't. He's got the entire place surrounded by guards and manipulated plant life that he or the guards control. You're looking at one of the most skilled waterbenders alive..."
"He's too big to WALK. How does he waterbend?"
As the fat man pushed aside his food, he waved his hands about and water twirled in the air.
"Very skillfully, my skinny, well formed friend. How is it going, Khuzo?"
"Good enough. Long time, no see, Smiley. Unfortunately, it hasn't been long enough," Khuzo answered.
"Never happy to see an old friend eh?" he asked.
"I'm never happy to see you, Smiley. But I need info."
"And why, should I give anything to you?"
"Because you owe me. For the last time. Remember? All those Fire Nation guards here to take you away. If it hadn't been for me, they would have succeeded in their little mission. But I killed them all."
"Not for me, though," he said.
"Well, a byproduct of that spilled blood was your freedom. And you were practically begging me to bring your fat, sorry tail back here."
"...Fine. I guess I can give you something. What is it that you want to know?"
"You know everything, Smiley. Everything that goes on, the second it goes on. So, I want to know something about a little group I'm interested-
"The Avatar's group? It consists of the current avatar, two Water Tribe children, a blind earthbender, and now the prince of the-"
"I don't care about the Avatar or his tiny group. We had a run-in once. Sometime back."
"Whoa. You met the Avatar?" Ridge butted in.
"No, but I once did some small time contracting for the remnants of one of the Water Tribes. Nothing special. I know who the two Water Tribe kids are. The older one wouldn't ever leave me alone about fighting. Always bugging me to show him something exploding or getting cut up. Nice kid though. The younger one wanted me to find something about waterbending. I didn't really care."
"When was this?"
"Like a year ago," Khuzo said, waving his hand in the air to show his lack of interest in knowing people who were with the Avatar, as if it were trivial.
"Hmm...you seem to have had your nose in everyone's business, Khuzo. Who is it that you want information on?"
"A group called The Twelve."
Smiley suddenly jerked up and gasped.
"I...I know nothing of that group! NOTHING AT ALL! OUT! OUT! GET OUT!"
"What's wrong, Smiley?" Khuzo asked.
"You don't understand!" he yelled, and then his fat head came an inch inward, and he whispered, as if the walls had ears, "They're listening. Always listening. They're everywhere."
"No they're not. If they were everywhere the Avatar would be dead. Now spare me your crock. Give me something."
Smiley seemed to consider. After all, Khuzo HAD done a lot for him.
"...Fine...BUT YOU DIDN'T HEAR THIS FROM ME! They're a special operations group. A small band of twelve warriors from various nationalities, all of which were willingly hired into the Fire Nation military. They are some of the most skilled warriors alive. Firebenders, waterbenders, earthbenders, nonbenders, even.....even an airbender..."
"That's not possible."
"But it is possible. You see, long ago, when the Air Nomads were murdered, a few of them were spared, ones who were obviously not the avatar....They were forced to breed....Many generations produced no viable airbending offspring but one....One brainwashed into Fire Nation servitude..."
"Amazing. What do you know about their members?"
"Nothing else, other than the airbender story. Too secret. Even for me. Why?"
"Because I recently got to know one of them, and I've known the other for....awhile. They have two VIPs I need to get back. How would such a group go about escorting jeopardized POWs?"
"Very discretely...but there's always a trail, and I can have your information in....a day's time."
He waved and a man immediately appeared from nowhere.
"Start a run. Everywhere. Find out about everything you can about POW transport for the Fire Nation. All recent VIP POWs being taken in or out of the Fire Nation. Send out the runners. What are you looking for, Khuzo?"
"Two teenaged children. Their father is Hitan, the rich traveler."
"Ah yes, THOSE children. Very well. FIND THEM!" he yelled, and then the man took off.
"We will have all the answers possible in one day's time. My men are fast. Very fast," he said, and winked, "Until then, please, enjoy your stay....here at my....quarters. Take any room you wish....and please....help yourself to anything...or anyone...you please..."
"Go suck on a-"
Ridge nudged Khuzo before he could finish.
"I SO call that booze over there. So call it."
