Well you can only make an epic fantasy action-adventure summer blockbuster movie with incredible visual, special and audio effects that has a killer script and plot so fast y'know.
It was announced in the winter of 2007 and it normally takes 3 years to make a high budget movie. A July 2010 release only puts it 6 months behind schedule and that isn't to bad considering its a holiday release.
Plus we need to consider they're probably making all 3 movies at the same time.
Like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. How was that released again?

in the lord of the rings trilogy the production people made the whole movie as one so there was not stoppage in between movies and when they release them they had a year inbetween them, thats probly what they will do with avatar
    Interesting.

Don't know if anyone posted this yet, but I found this and thought some people might find it interesting. It's a casting call for the movie but I don't have an account there so I can't see the full details.

Ratings dont make a movie good and Avatar is a kids show like it or not.

Just saw Chronicles of Narnia which got a PG rating and it was great.

Actually, ILM would be a good choice for this. They have an amazing track record and they always do outstanding jobs with the CGI on their films. If anyone can bring realistic flame, water, wind and ground/earth effects it's them.

I mentioned the New Narnia movie a couple posts ago and it should be pointed out that the CGI water near the end of the movie looked really good. After seeing that I dont have any doubts with the CGI required to make The Last Airbender.

Definitely have to agree with you there. The water effects at the end of Prince Caspian looked completely legit. Something people always seem to be afraid of with this movie is having it not look too fake, but I really don't think that's even a factor here. These days, more of my worries go towards having a good script, story and actors than having good CGI effects. They can do pretty much anything with CGI, it's amazing.

Eventually CGI will be almost the same in quality. Its already happened for video games, I mean all the new games have amazing graphics. The movie cant just have good CGI either, there also has to be the same artistic imagination that went into the TV series. Eventually CGI will look fantasitic in all movies and it will become more about what they do with it as an art more than the quality.

Ohhh, I loved Narnia. I totally kept thinking Katara was bending that water at the end, and I thought "Man, that will look so awesome."

Apparently, when making the dragon slaying scene in Beowulf, the writer asked the producer if it was going to cost him too much to make, and the producer replied 'these days, there's nothing you can write that won't cost me more than a million dollars a minute to film'.

Yeah, I think we have nothing to worry about.

Don't know if this has already been discussed, but will the title of the movie be changed overseas? It's just that I don't think a movie with the word 'bender' in it will be taken very seriously in the UK, seeing as over here it's used as a somewhat offensive slang term for a gay person. That's why me and mum couldn't stop laughing when we saw the first episode, as immature as we are

That's why they changed the name to 'Legend of Aang' in the UK.

Good point Laura. I don't think anyone would go to see a movie called 'the Last Airbender' in the UK.

    The Legend of Aang works.
