Shyamalan is a good director. It's just his past few ideas weren't that clever, but this is Avatar. I'm sure this will be M. Night's "Circus". This will make up for the past few movie. We just have got to be optomistic about this. People are making a big fuss about the casting choices IMO. The story is not about how the actors look. It is about their stories and their backrounds. It is about the teachings of hope, honor, courage, and destiny. As long as the actors get the right backround and story, then it will be as if we were still watching the cartoon. We are insinuating race into a place where it does not exist. The main characters are just people. We are all just people. It does not matter if ablack man plays Ozai. It doesnt matter if an Asian plays Albert in Batman. Heck, it wouldn't matter if Aang was played by a Mexican. This has happened before. One example is Catwoman played by Halle Berry. The point is that we should try to enjoy the characters because of their rich backrounds and story, not because of the color. I don't care if the main cast is black, yellow, or has stripes like a f**kin zebra. As long as the movie is written and transitioned nicels, has good effects, and a decent script, it should be good.
All excellent points. But that catwoman movie sucked, so... should we judge based on presedent?

In my experience, a movie boils down to a few crucial elements:

Writing- The story must be clever, catchy, fun, dramatic and most-importantly inspiring. If the Avatar script/sequence of events is left mostly the same, there shouldn't be a problem here.

Acting- The actors must make their characters relatable, interesting, and seem realistic. There is alot of debate about the chosen casts, but not so much about ability as racial representation. I guess we've pretty much accepted that however the actors look, their ability will be about the same, however good or bad that may be.

Music- If the score is good, a dull movie can become a masterpiece. Avatar has a superb musician composing the score, which REALLY excites me!

Directing/Editing- As long as transitions are smooth and understandable, this usually isn't an issue. M.Night has a reputation of choosing silly stories to direct, but he still always does a decent to excellent job on them. We'll see how this all pans out.

I don;t know about the music part. It does add punch. Like the Zuko/Azula fight would have been alittle less dramatic w/out the music. But would the jaws theme make a movie about a guy eating a sandwich any more exciting? It would make a funny youtube vid but not for a movie.

First post updated. Mark Rounthwaite is the fight coordinator. He's been involved with stunts for several recent movies including LotR 2 & 3, Bourne Ultimatum, Indiana Jones 4,King Kong, Casino Royale...)

Hmm that sounds cool they really are getting a lot of talented people for this movie, but I hope that the fight sequences turn out well. The fighting shouldn't

be completely different from in the show, it should be based on the different martial arts styles like in the show. I'm just a bit worried since it doesn't seem from the movies listed that the guy has coordinated martial arts sequences before

I think that would be the last twist of Shymalan's career, as he would be eaten alive.

I just found some possible casting info relating to extras from aPhilidelphia Radio Station Website.

    "Shyamalan movie seeks extras:

    M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" will hold an open casting call for extras on Jan. 24 at the Wachovia Spectrum's Bullies Restaurant. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. scouts are searching for men and women between ages 18 and 65, especially those with particular gymnastic, martial arts or military backgrounds, for a variety of roles. Boys and girls ages 6-15 are also sought. E-mail a mug shot and contact information to lastairbendercasting@gmail.com or call 215-574-7878. The live-action film is based on the Nickelodeon cartoon series."

This movie will definently make a good amount of money. It has big name actors, a well known director, people with extraodinary backrounds working on it, a large budget, and is known by a lot of poeple. Ask anyone if they know the show, they will say yes. Avatar is everywhere on Nick.com beleive it or not and it was advertised like crazy before the finale. You will probably always see the DVD and the Video Game out for sale.

This is my guess as to how much it will have made by the time it's out of theaters:

    90,000,000-165,000,000

I think this movie will probably do as well as his past movies. I honestly don't see this movie making much money
