Why's Spongebob so annoying now?

(I'm referring to the character, not the entire show.)

Every episode involving him usually features him as the bad guy of sorts, where he simply bothers other people to death until they have a heart attack. The way he's annoying bugs me, because he can't take simple orders and proccess incredibly simple things. I, for one, really hate this, as it makes episodes with him and Squidward painful to watch (Professor Squidward, Good Neighbors, Tentacle Vision) and make me want to turn off the TV. Like, in the old episodes, he was goofy, sure, but he wasn't overly obnoxious. He may have annoyed people, but they didn't hate every fiber of his being and want to commit suicide when they see him.

What do you guys think of him?

Well, he can get annoying sometimes (like in good neighbors, Funny pants, All That Glitters(all those tears), and Banned in Bikini Bottom) but I think you're sort of exaggerateing on how annoying he is....

He was actually EXTREMELY annoying in that one part in Someone's in the Kitchen with Sandy (When he was teaching "Sandy" to make a Krabby Patty and kept saying "Try again") And of course, he was annoying in other episodes (Him and Patrick were actually two of the reasons why I don't like Tentacle Vision) but, other than a select like, 5 or so episodes, he hasn't been bad.

He may be exaggerating, but he speaks the truth. Spongebob is really lame now, and he isn't much of a goof ball; he's a nuisence.

You've just listed two episodes I personally love him in.

I thought that scene in Someone's in the Kitchen with Sandy was absolutely hilarious and in my opinion in Tentacle-Vision if Spongebob and Patrick didn't annoy Squidward it wouldn't have been that funny or good of an episode.

I actually somewhat agree that SpongeBob is more annoying. Don't get me wrong, his character was supposed to be annoying and quirky since episode 1, but in season 1-3, he had that more adult-like personality and was a bit of an intellectual even when he was being a spaz. Now, they seem to be treating his character as if he's an annoying toddler who lives on his own somehow. He still acts smarter than Patrick at times, but in some episodes (particularly Squidward ones) he seems to be just a brain-dead annoy-bot. This may also have something to do with the fact that they're drawing a noticeably off-model in the newer seasons and it you look at they way he's now illustrated, he looks too "cheeky" (literally) and you can tell that his personality has changed. Some shots still show him normally though.

Despite all this, I don't quite mind so much anymore about the re-launch of SpongeBob's character. I mostly focus more on the storyline of the episodes and so far they're doing a good job at them.

I think there's a fine line between being an innocent little child and being the most irritating thing on the planet.

I understand why some people might think he's annoying...he can tell when a Krabby Patty bun is off by a millionth of an inch, but he doesn't know what personal space is. However, it's just a part of his character and we have to deal with it. He's the main protagonist, I don't think there's a point in watching the show if the main focus of it is deteriorating.

I think he's kind of annoying in a few episodes, but it's who he is. So, generally he is not annoying to me, and yes, I think this thread will be locked soon.
