Why did Sandy go underwater if she sometimes misses her home?

In the season one DVD set, there's an interactive Bikini Bottom tour where it is revealed that Sandy's tree dome house was built by her friends at NASA. Maybe that explains your question.

In Texas, these guys were setting a space launch. The astronaut was carrying a bonsai with him (which he claims is good luck.) Just as the astronaut was going into the ship, a squirrel was curious about the ship, so she followed the astonaut in the ship. Then they blasted off into space. A malfunction happened in the ship, so the entire rocket fell backwards and plummetted into the Pacific. Luckily, the squirrel survived the crash and it put on a toy space suit to help it breathe. Then it took the helmet off the dead astronaut and took the bonsai that thank goodness was undamaged. She put the bonsai in the helmet and sunk the helmet into the sand. She got the bikini from a dancing lady ornament from inside the ship. She reconstructed the ship and lived the rest of her life underwater.

The question was asked in 2006 before "Chimps Ahoy" aired and someone bumped the topic, so that's why it seemed like a recent question.
