All he needs to do is buy one, or have someone else by one, then use that ingredient thing to find the secret ingredient. Why doesn't he just do that?

The answer should be totally obvious but I'll say it anyways: if Plankton ever got a Krabby Patty, the series would be over. That's why Plankton only suceeded in his plan to take over the Krusty Krab in the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and even then Spongebob managed to thwart Plankton's evil plans.
