SpongeBob SquarePants: Why?

I'm just wondering, why did Nick release the dvd for The Big One one month earlier than when it aired on tv? It's like when they release the junior novel for a kid's movie, a couple weeks before it gets released in theaters, people can read it and then not go see the movie (Which is what I did when I saw the Shrek 3 and Madagascar 2 movie novels But I still saw the movies)
If kids really wanted to watch the special, they would buy/rent the dvd, and they wouldn't want to watch it on tv therefore giving Nick less ratings. It just doesn't make any sense. Yes, I realize that even though kids may watch a special or read a movie novel and see the movie/special, but it still doesn't make any sense. It's like releasing a movie on DVD a month before it's in theaters. IT MAKES NO SENSE!!!
Can someone please try to explain why Nick would do this?

I have a feeling that it is because the special was SUPPOSED to air in February, since it's one of the big ratings months. But you do bring up a good point. I have no idea.

in australia the dvd came out in april 2 but it aired in tv on april 18 which is today

Nickelodeon might want people to buy the DVD and see it on television.
