Who misses the old Hidden Adult Humor?

    I used to love the Adult humor they would put into some of the older episodes that would just pass right by younger children.

    It was always funny to see what could slip past the censor. Except now, Nickelodeon has soften up, and it is shown through SpongeBob SquarePants.

    Come to think of it, SpongeBob kind of serves as a time warp for Nickelodeon. In 1999 and the early 2000s Nick was somewhat clever and original, and so was SpongeBob. Then Nick became unintelligent, and it has affected SpongeBob.

    The show didn't have a lot of adult humor, just clevor themes that adults would like. now they seem to be only aiming the show at children.

    Like, in Sailor Mouth, kids wouldn't realize this, but it would be funny if they knew WHERE IN THE SENTENCE that the bad word was being used. Also, in Rock-A-Bye Bivalve, adults would recognize the worm's last words: "We will bury you!"

    Yeah but not in the stupid and disrespectful way that the new writers changed it. The show is really going downhill. I miss the old SpongeBob.

    Now the only "Adlut jokes" in the show recentlly are election year jokes.

    There were clever plots that carefully weaved in adult humor in the right placees, but now there's hardly any. I still love the show though

    Yeah, there were some references and themes that kids wouldn't get, but I wouldn't say it's 100% gone, like on the latest episode for example: "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?" The tattoo scene that says "Spring Break" a lot of kids wouldn't get why it said spring break. I think SpongeBob and Pat were drunk when they got that tattoo...on ice cream

    yeah, like in the spongebob movie, they were at what was supposed to be an ice cream bar, and they got drunk and spongebob stayed all night and then had a hangover. how were little kids supposed to know what that meant?

    I LOVED the adult humor that was in it. I always laugh in the episode with Flatts, when SpongeBob is in Boating School and he asks another student about his pencils. She replies, "You can shove them up your-" whil SpongeBob completely misses it and keeps rambling on. I don't know why, but that part cracks me up every time! In "Sailor Mouth," I kept trying to figure out what words they were using, too. I think the adult humor is what won me over in a way- it was supposed to be a kids' show, yet there were jokes in there that kids don't get. Now, I'd say a major part of it is gone. I still enjoy the show, though.

    I meant I didn't understand the part where SB got drunk on ice-cream in the movie until I was older.

    I was thirteen when I saw it, so I was just barely old enough to understand it.

    It's a shame that they downgraded the maturity level of the serie, starting season four. But then they downgraded it even more in the fifth season with potty humor and other silly stuff.

    Oh well, I guess you do what you got to do to keep a series running for as long as possible. At least they are making funny episodes still.
