Since SpongeBob is so popular, and the most popular show on Nickelodeon, I don't think it will end any time soon. However, if other, newer shows air in the future that are more popular than SpongeBob, then the fate of the show will be clearer. Only time will tell.

Well not anytime soon, because they're making 5 more new episodes called "The Bob Squad". But it could have a chance of ending soon because the plots are getting dumber.

Take away SpongeBob, and Nick will lose LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY AND RATINGS they're not getting from anything else. If people still love it, which they do, and if it's Nick's top money-making show, which it is, then they'll continue it as long as they can. It would be like taking Hannah Montana away from Disney. I'd say 2010 at the earliest, between then and 2020.

The thing that worries me is that, as SpongeSebastian noted, the show will probably always be loved... until the quality goes into the trash and they made bad episode after bad episode.

Yeah. If it goes on for too long, more and more "diehard fans" will hate it.

I will like it no matter what.
The new episodes never get old, and even if the new ones become utter trash, I'll just ignore 'em.

Um, 8 more years? I don't think so. The writers can't keep coming up with new plots forever. And now it's harder to make an episode that's not similar to something that already aired.

It's true. One day the show will end, and we will all have tons of episodes to watch over and over again.

We just need to pray Nick doesn't make a spin-off!

True. Whilst in the case of The Simpsons a few years back (say 1999 or thereabouts) i would have agreed that the Fawlty Towers method should have come into place... and ended the series while it was still consistent... Spongebob imo hasn't really declined as much as some would say... And whilst my favorite episodes tend to be older ones i think thats merely because i've seen them more and so forth... So if i was to put a realistic prediction i'd say 2016... but that's IF they cancelled it before the turn of the next decade

I kinda think they will though, I mean they did with The Rugrats, (and All Grown Up was awful IMO) but who knows they might not, only time will tell..

Well personally I loved AGU, but it won't work for SpongeBob. Unless it's any of our spin-offs.

i liked AGU too... but then again i only started watching Rugrats in 02... (the episodes, being reruns, would probably be from the late nineties and not the early nineties or pre-Dill or wtvr)

I think in Spongebobs case a spinoff could work but you might as well continue with the show as it is imo...

So i say it should never end... and will... probably not end until at least 2015

I love AGU too! But a show like Spongebob...it's not the type of show that can have a good spinoff.

Yeah or another theory is that Nick will cancel SpongeBob in 2012 because they are scared like some other people that the world is gonna end that year. I don't think that's true though, the world would be ending too quickly and too fast and suddenly for us that year!

But really this show is just great being the original and not having no spin-offs (cough TSL had a Spin-Off too called TSLoD where I think its terrible cough.)

SpongeBob SquarePants is best staying at one show (the original SpongeBob) and running until it can hopefully rest in peace and have a good ending to it. Besides I still think its doing pretty good so I think it can make it at least another few years, I thought Sand Castles of Sand was good but I thought Toy Store of Doom was even better!

Maybe they should make a final episode where Spongebob and Sandy go out, kiss, go to Rock Bottom for thier honeymoon, and have kids.

I doubt that, I mean no one canceled/ended any show in 1999 because of the Y2K thing.
