I miss the show's adult humor. This show without adult humor makes trash like the Fairly Odd Parents, Flapjack, and other shows look very adulty. What happende to the adult theme that SpongeBob used to have?

I think it's still there, but not as much as in the pre-movie seasons.

They did kind of dumb it down for children, although it's still good.

Maybe you don't know, but only Ghost Host and Curse of Bikini Bottom are rated to be unsuiteble for children, and they are both past-movie episodes.

But those were only two, and it had more before the movie. I mean the show was much better when it had more adult themed episodes. It reminds me of the Rocko and Ren & Stimpy days.

sorry to double post, but the show went from, "Hi Patrick, how the *dolphin noise* are ya?" to "Mr. Sun came up, and he smiles at me! It's gonna be a good one just wait and see! Jump out of bed, and I ran outside, feeling so excited and satisfied, It's the beeeest day ever! best day ever!" That means from cartoony-childish.

Kids don't like adult humor, I THINK that's why Sailor Mouth was #96 in the countdown.

That's one of the major things that made the show popular, the hidden adult jokes. It's what makes the show funny for all ages, not just kids. But ever since it was dummed down, the show's ratings dropped and isn't as popular as it used to be. Every funny cartoon needs adult jokes (innuendo, slapstick, double entrende, and more), for example, The Looney Tunes used a lot of adult jokes, maybe more than SpongeBob did and was EXTREMELY popular.

There doesn't need to be a whole lot of adult humor to make it a good show. It is rated TV Y7, so maybe a few innuendos only adults would get every now and then.

Was that rock a bye scallop (Darn it, i suck in spelling) an adult humor episode too? Because that episode was disturbing O.O

Anyway, I thought there were a few adult humors in in the pre-movie series. For example, the way Spongebob was like 'Bye Squidward' in 20,000 Patties Under The Sea. It was pretty adult humor to me. And the one where Patrick turned into a girl. Or that weird episode where Squidward became 'handsome'. Okay, scratch the last one. That episode was scarier than it's suppose to be funny.

The adult humour generally goes over kids heads.

I miss the adult humor to. Even though the current episodes are decent, I agree with talonmalon333 that the show has been "dumbed down" for a younger audience, which is a shame because it's meant to have an appeal with people of all ages.

These episodes have been going downhill for a long time. Spongebob used to be a show that was funny for both adults and children. Now it's just another dumb kiddie show filled with potty humor and singing which is the saddest thing that could happen to SB. SB had something special that made it different from other cartoons, but now it's gone. I really miss the older more adult-oriented episodes.

I don't watch the new episodes as much as I used too so I'm not sure if I can actually say the original humor is gone. Although from some of these comments, it does sound more childish than it used to. But remember, this cartoon IS geared mainly towards young people, so too much of it can send the wrong message. I'm guessing after the original writer of the series left, the others didn't know how to strike a balance, so they stuck with just kid's jokes.

But come on! The world is full of hidden adult jokes they can use. Even DISNEY uses them. Just look at this quote from "The Princess and the Frog"

Ray: (While Tiana and Naveen are caught in a tongue knot- don't ask) Looks like you and your boyfriend got a little carried away, am I right?

Anyone who knows the terms "sex" or "French Kiss" would probably know what he means by that. And it's rated G!

Wheras SB has less mature humor than, say, Phineas and Ferb. Surely the guys at Nick Studios can do better than this. OK, now that I've bored you, I'm done.
