From the looks of it, this series will still be running for many years to come, possibly over eight seasons. However what I fear is that they will run out of ideas and the episodes will get bland.

So what do you think they should do in future episodes? We will need quality episodes so that SpongeBob can go out with a bang.

Hire some new writers. Everyone has more ideas right? And they might even be good ones. Imagine this:
    Seasons 1-3: Classics
    Seasons 4-6: Downhill
    Seasons 7-Whenever: Right Back Uphill

    That'd be nice..

For some reason I always imagining them reviving the series a year or so after the end of season seven, and I always imagine the episodes intelligence level radically rising with the revival.

Anyway, in the future, they have to create ideas for further episodes so that the show can last a few more years, but some ideas could be risky. For example, what if they introduced a new character that would become a part of the main cast? Or what if they made a cross over with another show? The possibilities are endless, and some of which may not turn out well.

We were talking about the "new permanent character" thing in another SB fansite, and we all agreed that it would be a terrible idea.

I really don't think that SpongeBob will end after season 7, as many are predicting. It's Nick #1 show, they are not going to get rid of it that easy, many people (like me) still love it. And I have this strong feeling (or more like a dream) that season 7 will be great. Last night I dreamt that I asked Steve Hillenburg why he quit collaborating on writing episodes after the movie...he didn't answer. True Story.

You can do somethings in SpongeBob that you can't do with any other TV show, and the writers should take advantage of that.

Well, some things need to be done:

    1. A Movie Sequel

    2. New Episodes every other friday night

    3. MORE SPONGEBOB MERCHANDISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you say, "Hannah Montana?" If SpongeBob had a full line of action figures, and all of that merchandise, that would help the show progress! Sure, they had beanie babies, but SpongeBob is (no offense) to good for that kind of merchandising!

    Agreed.

But I'm sure that the show might not make it to an eigth season or more if it is still downhill.

Before anything is done about a new season Nick really needs to either get back their old writers or hire some new ones who are more creative and more skilled and care about showing some fans some good qulaity episodes. After Nick does that then we can try giving Nick all these suggestions. A cross-over does sound nice, and some new characters, I mean, I'm sure we can come up with some cool new characters if we put our minds to it and then see if Nick accepts them. (Otherwise we can try and FORCE them to accept our ideas.)

Now I would also like to say before Avatar ended there was some tensions and it was complicated determining what was Nicks #1 best show back then. What was the best show? Avatar or SpongeBob? I'm sure if you post that at the Avatar forums all of the replies would say Avatar. Even though its ended there's still some complexities about which show was greater and has better plots and storylines, it is tough between the fans.

As for me I'm both a Spongebob fan and Avatar fan. ( I saw an episode at one of my friends house three nights ago where he has all the DVD's, I only had enough time to watch 4 episodes and liked it a lot.)

Nick's #1 show of all time? While I would pick SpongeBob SquarePants...

While I do love Spongebob the most, I have to say that the most popular of all time was the Rugrats. It ran for 15 years and even had a spinoff (though the spinoff was not successful). Sure all the debates these days are between Spongebob and Avatar, the Rugrats were extremely popular throughout most of my childhood

Personally I'm not a fan of cross overs. They never turn out well, and I don't think SpongeBob SquarePants would be much of an exception. Think about it. What could the show cross over with?

And as for a new character, I'd probably give them a chance, but there's a chance that I wouldn't like them, knowing what previous Nickelodeon shows have done when it comes to adding new characters.

As for some new ideas of individual episodes, I am still a strong supporter of an episode about SpongeBob and Patrick having a sleep over, where Squidward would possibly get involved. I also want to see them go on a vacation, maybe to the mountains or something.

I just want to get a good idea of what everyone thinks of this idea. What would you guys think if they added a female sponge to the cast?

you bring up a very good point. those dumb babies were extremely popular for along time. they had three movies, a spinoff, and lord knows how many specials. it was probably during season 2 of spongebob when it overthrew rugrats as the most popular show on nickelodeon. while i think spongebob was the best animated show on nickelodeon, those rugrats accomplished a lot of stuff

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spongebob_squarepants#Popularity

    Look at this quote.
"when SpongeBob SquarePants aired in 1999, it had gained a significant enough number of viewers in the ratings to be considered popular, eventually becoming more popular than Rugrats had ever been."

Rugrats was the most popular AT that time, but the most popular of all time is SpongeBob SquarePants.

I don't know where you're getting that from, considering that wikipedia is usually right. The only times when it is wrong is when it comes to fiction stuff, not real stuff like SpongeBob's popularity. And whenever you find wrong information about real life stuff, it is deleted right away. That message has been there for years.

Also, I don't see why you don't already know that SpongeBob is Nickelodeon's all time most popular either.

I draw a dilemma of how the show turns out if that happens. There's been something troubling for a while now and there's been past debates over it of whether it is perfect for SpongeBob or not, and that is the shipping between SpongeBob and Sandy.

well i have been lied to by wikipedia way too many times to trust them anymore so can you blame me for not believing wikipedia on anything anymore.

secondly, i do know that spongebob is nickelodeon's most popular of all time and i accept that without a doubt. i was just making a case for the rugrats

and finally, a female sponge would be bad in my opinion. i just don't think that would be a good idea because spongebob has sandy to fall back on and i just don't see a female sponge being that popular

I kind of agree with you about the girl sponge, but above you made it sound like you thought Rugrats was more popular, which is why I was confused.

no way is the rugrats more popular. while i admit it was popular back then, it would get crushed by spongebob today. sorry for confusing you
