Why has Sponge's voice gone up an octave?!

I don't think anyone knows actually . It may be that Tom Kenny had to change it over time, or so that his voice fits his new "child" like personality.

I guess that it's the same reason that Talon gave since there was a bit of time between the production of the movie and Season 4's production, so maybe Tom Kenny's voice kinda changed because he was away from the sponge's voice for so long.

Thanks. I noticed it in just the few recent episodes. And especially in the Squarepantis thing. Itwasn't as high before... and he could change it slightly to fit Sponge's mood. For example in the episode "Something Smells" when Spongebob thinks that he's scaring people offbecause he's ugly. Patrick tells him to try the mirror test, sohe points at it and goes "Hhhhi.." as suave-like. I can't imagine him doing that now with this super high-pitched version.

In the movie, his voice was kind of "in between" his season three and season four voice, though it was slightly towards his season three voice.

If you watch "Best Day Ever", when SpongeBob talks, you can clearly tell it is his high voice. However when he sings the original lyrics of The Best Day Ever, you can tell he is singing an octave down. That is one way that I prove he sounded different in the movie.

Yeah, in Best Day Ever his voice was high-pitched too. But not as much as it was in Squarepantis Atlantis! Or maybe I just noticed it more in there.

Maybe its because he forgot how to make spongebob's correct voice over that long hiatus from 05-06 (or was it 04-05...?)

Neither did I. Why can they not just go back to his season three voice? I watched "Atlantis SquarePants" again the other day and, at the part where Patchy imagines SpongeBob, I noticed that SpongeBob uses his season three voice, meaning the creator can still do it.

Mabey it was a cut seen from Season 3. And if you didn't notice a change, why did you say it sounded different in the Atlantis Squarepanits Patchy seen?

I didn't explain very well, but I will here. Like you, I didn't notice the voice change after the movie really well. However, once someone pointed it out, I did notice it.
