"It's a good day for Nickolodeon's loveable, huggable, sea dwelling cleaning product.
The kid's channel's animated superstar, SpongeBob Squarepants, will not only be celebrating his 10th anniversary, the network also re-upped the cartoon for another season. Nickelodeon announced Tuesday that it will bring back SpongeBob, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and others from the hit series for 26 original episodes, bringing the total number of episodes for the series to 178.

"After a decade on our air, SpongeBob has emerged as one of the most beloved and popular characters in television history," Brown Johnson, president of animation for Nickolodeon, said in a statement. "Audiences of all ages have fallen in love with this show and we're delighted to be serving up additional original episodes to our viewers for many years."

The announcement comes on the heels of a 10th anniversary special that drew 7.7 million total viewers last month.

"SpongeBob" currently ranks as the number-one animated series with kids 2-11 and is seen in 171 markets in 26 languages, making it the most widely distributed property in MTV Networks' history."

That's right, folks, it means we'll have an 8th season and quite possibly a 9th one as well! Life is good

This is awesome news, even though it was said months ago that there would be a season 8.

But, we may also get a 9th season! Wow, i never thought Spongebob would go that high. Keep it up!

I also wonder if this means more TV Movies.

Eh, I haven't watched much recently, season 6 STUNK, so I've strayed away from most of season 7. The ones from 7 I have seen have also been pretty lousy. So this isn't the greatest news to me

Yay! Possibly two more seasons! I guess when I go to college in the fall, I'll have to find a way to watch this without my roommate catching me....

*crosses fingers* That's cool. All the best to the crew

Hopefully, they go back to the old spongebob. I see them improving but no more obnoxious, 'gory' scenes. PLEASE

There wasn't anything gory. If there was, an episode would be banned. They just put gross and bulging stuff in episodes.

Wow. Not many kids shows get over 100 episodes (Although I think Rugrats hit 300 epis if you count all the spinoffs). Also, did anyone realize that if the sponge is renued for a tenth season (which i'm sure it will) it will have 200+ episodes! O.O! Is anyone else thinking this show will reach simpsons seasons (aka any number of seasons over 15)?

That's cool. I'm hoping for the best in Season 8 and possibly Season 9. Season 7 has been great so far and I'm hoping they bring more of what was in the old SpongeBob back as the show progresses.

I'm new here, btw. I am a huge fan of SpongeBob (Especially the older ones) and as you can tell by my username, I am a devoted supporter of Spandy (SpongeBob/Sandy).

Over 8 million. it's the most-viewed SpongeBob premiere to date.

And of course SpongeBob will have over 200 episodes, if it has 178 now, one more season and you'll see. I don't think Nick will let go off this show too easily, you can't imagine all the bucks SpongeBob makes for them!

Welcome to the boards! Many of us are Spandy fans, includind myself, although not as devoted, for I am one of the fewest die-hard SpongeBob fans that thinks he's gay well, bi, and supports it 100% yeah, I'm weird like that, you'll get used to it

Besides, seasons 2 & 3 had more gory scenes than season 4-7 put together, so I don't see why people compain every time a new episode has one.

I'm probably not as hyped as you are, but I am excited, considering how some of the most recent season 6/7 episodes have shown to be an improvement.
