At one point a number of years ago I could have sworn that the series had ended, but then as of recently while watching it with my girlfriends son, I saw some episodes that I have never seen before, as part of the 1/2 hour mixed with an older episode. Did this series end for a while and then come back?

It was scheduled to end after the movie, but fans kept asking for more episodes. And season four was born.

They are even going to have a season 5, but I'm pretty sure that the show is going to end after that season is done. I for one will be very sad. And in answer to your question...the show went on hiatus for almost 2 years (except with the occasional Patchy special such as Spongebob B.C., The Lost Episode, and Spongebob's house party). A few months after the movie came out season 4 started based on a strong fan base who didn't want the show to end.

They already renewed SpongeBob SquarePants for a Sixth Season.

I used to love this show years ago, and now I see that it's back on makes me really happy.
