If it had a longer story ,otherwise it was just a fly-by-night show.

If I asked my parents if they knew what Avatar was, they would have no idea. SpongeBob on the other hand... ()

avatar looks like a pretty memorable show it's definately unique enough to be considered classic but it doesn't have enough media recognition.spongebob has kinda declinded in quality over the past three-ish years but that won't stop it from being remembered

Avatar is an awesome show that never had a decline, but it might have been because it only ran for 3 years and then ended. SpongeBob has a decline because it is still running, and it has been around a long time. But hey I guess that is the downfall for continuing a show longer than, like, 5 years. With so many episodes out already, it becomes harder and harder to come up with some fresh and superb ideas. Lately though in the past couple months I think they've been trying to do better, I mean, the majority of the Thanskgiving episodes I thought were great and I think everyone here can agree with that on Porous Pockets and Ditchin'. (Alas, that still might be an opinion though and not a fact.)

Even through a decline though, A popular show that millions of people know about won't be affected like that when it produces billions of dollars where the creators who obtain that kind of money are probably set for life. However, some of us though (like me) still wish that it can get better and somehow return to another golden age like it once did, there's got to be some possible way, every cloud has a silver lining.

I agree completely. Avatar is amazing (I love it more than spongebob, no offense), but it just doesn't fit into the category of classics.

Anyways, yes, I do think Spongebob will go down as a classic. It is already considered one.

If you go up to a random person between the ages of 9-14, and say one of the following:

"Happy Leif Ericcson Day! Hinga dinga durgen!"

"The most important meal of the day, serving it up Gary's way!"

    "IMAAAGGGIIINNNAAATTTIION!"

    [Sing the Campfire Song Song]

...or something along those lines, they will recognize it unless they don't have cable. SpongeBob sure has made a name for itsself.

If I did that to someone between that age (and I'm in that age range) I guarantee they'd know what I was on about.

Since SpongeBob is also on CITV, a popular UK channel, and it's sometimes a part of basic ITV television.

Stephen Hillenburg and his writers crew (responsible for the memorable seasons 1 - 3), for some reason, left the show slowly after the Spongebob Squarepants movie prior to season 4. I suspect that it was a conflict between Nickelodeon and them over something although I am not sure what it was all about or how it began when the show was at its peak. Stephen Hillenburg would return rarely but usually for rather minor jobs. (ie. playing the harmonica in Atlantis Squarepantis) And was not as active anymore in the production process (yes, his hands are free from blood).

That ORIGINAL crew was the one which really got the show going and kept it popular. Unfortunately, the current cruddy batch of writers still rides on that wave of money, and more valuably, POPULARITY, ACCLAIM, and Spongebob's Marketability which the original crew worked hard for. And that Original crew doesn't get a paycheck any more for their services (but I think Hillenburg still earns royalties).

Stephen was apart of Alantis Square Pantis?!? Wow, I mean I kinda liked it, but I cant believe he didnt step in and make it a better episode or something, or mabye he liked it to...o.O. Oh and Mr Lawrence (The voice/writer of Plankton/Plankton Episodes) Is still working for SB, hes even on the new SpongeBob Fan site that Nickelodeon created.
