Well here we go, lol. I apologize if this turns out to be quite long, but I type a lot
. I don't like to group the movie with the seasons, so...
Season 1 (1999-2000):
This was the season that started everything. It contains many classics, and the characters were getting their introductions, many of them changing a lot over time. It wasn't the best season, however it was definitely a good start. Some of my favorites include Valentine's Day, Jellyfishing, and Texas.
Bottom Line: 8.5/10
Season 2 (2000-2001):
The second season started off on the same level as the first one, in terms of quality. However once we reached Dying for Pie, this marked the beginning of SpongeBob's years of glory. This season was a hard hitter, nailing nearly every episode, many of which becoming some of their all time best. My favorites include Survival of the Idiots, Shanghaied, and Band Geeks, plus more.
Bottom Line: 9.5/10
Season 3 (2002-2004):
Season 3 consisted of the golden years of the series, showing incredible quality consistently. It hardly ever lagged, much less than the past two seasons... and even they hardly lagged either! Even though season 3 marked a decline in the show's popularity, I absolutely loved it. My favorites include SpongeBob's House Party, Club SpongeBob, Snowball Effect... honestly it's so hard to even pick favorites from here.
Bottom Line: 10/10
Season 4 (2005-2007):
Here's where thins began to get a little messy. The movie ended its great run, and the show was put on hiatus, where the decision came up as to whether or not it should go on without its creator. However in 2005, the show was back with new writers. They seemed to know they had big shoes to fill and tried to mimic the original writers. The results were hit or miss episodes. I wasn't a big fan of this season, although it got better as time went, and it even ended in a bang. Overall I think it had too many low quality episodes. But at least it had its gems. These include Wishing You Well, Krusty Towers, and Bummer Vacation.
Bottom Line: 6/10
Season 5 (2007):
Now at this point, it seems like the people in charge decided that they should shift gears, and the series totally changed. Season 5 used a lot of "dumb" humor, rather than the clever and witty jokes that seasons 2 and 3 were known for. However, I must say, I get a guilty pleasure with this season. I just can't deny to myself that I got a lot of laughs out of it. It wasn't as good as the original seasons, but it was an improvement over season 4. Some of my favorites include To Love a Patty, Rollar Cowards, and The Inmates of Summer.
Bottom Line: 7.5/10
Season 6 (2007-2009):
Season 6 took off from season 5, using the same style of humor. However the problem here was that, for whatever reason, the quality was weaker. I don't know why, maybe the humor from season 5 was just wearing out. Whatever the case, the episodes changed midway into the season, and we got more quality. Some of the plots seemed more wacky or "out there", but they were rather entertaining. Some of my favorites include Krusty Krushers, Gone, and Toy Store of Doom.
Bottom Line: 7.5/10
Season 7 (2009-)
And now we have reached the present, the current season of SpongeBob SquarePants. This season has been very good so far, and I am glad that the show is still running, past its 10 year anniversary. While many episodes in this season are just average, there are also some really good ones. Some of these include Pineapple Fever, Someone's in the Kitchen with Sandy, and Chum Caverns.
Bottom Line: 7/10
Season 8 (???):
Ahh, the future of SpongeBob SquarePants. What do the writers have in store for us? Where will SpongeBob and Patrick go next? What kinds of plans will Plankton create to get the formula? What money schemes will Mr. Krabs come up with? SpongeBob's future is a future shrouded in mystery, but we can only hope it's a good one.
Now that was fun, wasn't it?
